Use to be a fairly common site, to see a back hoe on the rear of a dozer... The dozer was terrible to run as a dozer with the hoe mounted though. BUT, I guess any day you can ride your hoe, is a good day... lol
Then with the explosion of the track hoe, they just went away!
I had 2 of those machines here when I was building back in the mid-90s: a Case 850, and a Case 350. Both had detachable backhoes, and FELs on them. I would guess the former was at least 12T, and the latter, maybe 3T. I would consider them "track-hoes", but that is not a very common or standard term.
Since those are rare now, I guess that would explain why some folks may call excavators "track-hoes".
