Hopefully this project doesn't come to a quick end. I'll check the water level in a couple of days. Not sure what to expect at the moment with such a small amount of initial water to monitor. With the temps in the 60's to low 70's I shouldn't loose much if any to evaporation. If it's gone in a few days I'll know the soil doesn't have enough clay mix. If it's still there I'll continue on when dry enough.

Good plan. I'd hate to see you devote more time and resources to a Lake that won't hold water.

I'm optimistic though!!! I think it'll be a success.

It's only at about 6 feet right now. I would love to take it to 15 feet at the waterline but that is going to involve moving a whole lot of dirt. I may have to look at renting a dozer for a week.

Have you checked the area behind the dam for seepage? Ideal slope for pond slopes is 3-1. So a dam 15 feet tall would be 45 feet wide at the bottom of the slope. That is just one side of the dam. Both sides would equal 30 feet at the base. That would be awesome if you have the room.

Moving lots of dirt gets to be monotonous. I know. Just spent the last 4 days moving dirt and spreading it on the dam for a little more height and width at the top. Also seeded with Bermuda grass seed. I pumped the level down to move the dirt and install cinder blocks in the swallow end for Fathead minnows. Now, I look forward to rain.

I agree!!!! My biggest concern was water permeating thru the rock layer in the base of the ditch. That would be very obvious. If there's not a noticeable trickle of water escaping under the base I think he's good. Hope so for sure!!

So far so good. Just walked back to take a look. Made 1" marks on the pole so I can keep track. I've lost 1/4" in 24 hours. I built the bottom of the pond about 4 feet higher than the rock shelf I hit so the back side of the dam is much lower than the front side. No water on the back side at the moment.

It seems to be holding so far....so good. Hope it holds.

I wonder if all the traversing with the skid steer packs it down to help it hold water?
