All 6 seasons are available for streaming on Amazon...They (with Michael Connelly's approval) updated the character a little to meet the times...instead of having served in Vietnam as a "tunnel rat" (small guy)...the character played by Titus Welliver served in the Gulf...
...Connelly has a hand in the writing/production of the series which makes it that much better...

I signed up for my free month of Prime and just started watching... thanks again for pointing it out. Usually a movie made from a book leaves a lot to be desired but they did a good job on this... right down to Bosch's home on the hill overlooking the city. It will be interesting to see how much it follows the book... at one point his place was condemned because of earthquake damage but he snuck home every night anyways.

Oh man that's rough.

Hopefully the hospital could allow unpaid family care leave with return rights. You're too valuable for them to lose.

There has to be someone out there to do companion care if you pay far above ordinary caregiver rates. For my mother at 96, bedridden in her own home but bright enough to give lots of orders, I was near the end paying a salary higher than what I had been earning before I retired. For some reason the Fijian immigrant community has lots of 'aunties' working in Northern California to send money home and they are paid well. For them its a cultural value to treat the elderly with the highest respect, and they are worth what they ask. Maybe ask around in the convalescent hospitals where your patients eventually go.

Good luck with this.

I just learned she works as a CNA at a place in the news being Covid positive... this is a real risk because many have several jobs at multiple locations...

The series 'Justified' is based on an Elmore Leonard short story ' Fire in the Hole'...Elmore Leonard had a hand in the writing and production of the series...his influence is noticeable...the series is very well written and moves like Leonard's written works...

Leonard once said of himself that he "tried not to write what many readers skip over"...

Lots of folks may have never heard of Elmore Leonard but I guarantee they have seen his work in the form of TV and movies...including lots of old west stories and plots etc...
Clint Eastwood owns several movie rights of his stories...

scroll down the wiki page to see a list of his stories that have been made into movies...Elmore Leonard - Wikipedia

Timothy Olyphant put in his usual good performance, but you gotta admit the "Boyd Crowder" character was well played for a villian. Ava wasn't bad either. :)

That's not the right one for you! Continue to ask around for someone who will take you as their only customer. Be prepared to pay well.

If you can afford it, get someone willing to live-in with a few days off per week. Partly to save your own sanity. "The caregiver always goes first" is more than just a legend! In a married couple of similar advanced age the elderly caregiver is taking a beating while the one no longer considerate makes incredibly unreasonable, and frustrating, demands for more more more. You need relief from that even if you are a generation younger.

Mom finally needed more care than her decent retirement income (college professor) could cover. We considered and rejected a reverse mortgage on her house, the up-front fee of $15k was unreasonable. Finally we discovered B of A would make home-equity loans (marketed as 'remodel loans') back then with almost no conditions aside from a lien to get back their money after death. 6% adjustable rate when we wheeled her in to shakily sign. The rate was low because we asked for a limit of less than half her house's appraised value. Being able to draw from that as needed, paid for her full time caregiver and allowed her to stay in her home through her final day. I recommend this if savings won't cover the cost of care. But get someone in there to carry part of the burden.

Justified is one of my all time favorites. Haven't got into Outlander. I'll have to check that out.

5 years ago my wife and I took full responsibly to care for our neighbor, who was like our father. He was diagnosed with dementia a couple years after his wife passed. We eventually needed folks to help with care. He was a Marine vet from WW2, so I put this in the local paper and on CL to see what I found.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to the "United States Of America", for an amount of up to and including their life. This veteran needs home care. If this is something you specialize in please call xxx-xxx-xxxx. Care giver needed for adult male with Alzheimer's. You must enjoy working with senior citizens and have a love for people. Must be CNA or CMA certified, experienced, dependable and have excellent references.

We got replies for older folk who were very good help, and they often knew someone else who could fill in when needed.

I would recommend "Coach Broyle's Playbook For Alzheimer's Caregivers". I think you can download it in a PDF format.
