Do we have enough time left on the clock to figure out testing and test that many people? Or will 20 million become 50 million unemployed and then the poverty, looting, stealing and crime will overwhelm us by the time they figure out how to “ use the information “?
I have no problem waiting on testing, but dont shrug off herd immunity. It works. In fact, herd immunity is the long term answer, not testing everyone day, wearing masks and gloves and staying home forever.

Remember, the unemployment issue is going to bring us into a depression of unimaginable destruction. Very few if any of us lived during the depression and remember it well. That’s going to kill a crap ton of people more than the virus.

And just to clarify, Im not suggesting a reckless return to work. All the at risk stay home. All the hot spots stay locked down until treatments are figured out, but if the state of Maine has 55 deaths, but the oldest average age population of any state in the country, we have to see theres got to be some common sense applied.
Let those people get back to work, before they overwhelm their state.

As far as how the virus is impacting me. I can’t eat at my favorite restaurants and have coffee with my friends wherever we want.

Keep in mind that in Texas there has always been an exception for tending to animals including pets.

I may have a few feral cats I have to check on regularly.

My take on all this, take it as you want to...

The country is bleeding money at a stupid rate of speed with little coming in right now. Consequently, the push to open it back up so people can get back to work (and pay taxes and fund the government) is paramount. My question is of course, at what cost. I believe most people with any intelligence can surmise that cost. Probably prefer not to think about it, not a pleasant thought process.

Recession, for sure. We are in it right now. Gonna get worse, much worse. The good times are gone for the foreseeable future and it don't matter what the government does, that die is cast.

You don't 'bounce' back from this, healing takes a long time. People today are about to experience what a severe recession does. I imagine a lot of them won't be able to cope with it, after all, we have been living the 'good life for a long time. That is finished.

No. At least not my take on it. They should keep social distancing wearing masks, gloves, etc until effective treatments come along for the aged and Co morbidities.
We really have no other choice until that happens.

i think its a matter of focus. Consider that real time testing would tell people who was safe right now. Business employees tested as they arrive and go home; customers, people on the street, etc. Business and life could proceed almost as normal while vaccine and herd immunity were developed.

We can’t wait for a vaccine or anything else. This has a very high survival rate and not everyone gets it anyway. Get things started back up and get people used to a change in behavior to be more cautious and preventative. Work on finding a vaccine or a prophylactic treatment until we find one. People who want to stay at home can continue to do so, but they shouldn’t be paid to do it.

Likewise my apple orchard must be getting lonesome by now.

More realistically - We have new trees in the orchard that will be lost if they don't get watered soon. I think we've already lost the patio plants. Ag is an essential activity so I'm legal driving over there.

We'll do it like going camping, taking what we need so no local shopping. We've been quarantined in town for a month with no contact and groceries delivered so we're not likely contagious. But we owe it to our neighbors there (and also considering our own ages) to maintain no-contact until the situation becomes clearer.

Maybe we're all going to die, I don't know. Dad lived at the orchard until his last day and that would be my choice too.

In my case it really don't matter. I'll keep right on doing what I do anyway because I do it alone. All I do is grow and harvest forage in the summer and conveniently, everything I run is already pre sold and has been for 5 years now. I have one customer, takes all rounds, not particular if they are net or twine (I prefer net, it's faster) and he picks them up in the field with his semi trailers, all I do is load them. No storage on my part at all, Handle one time. Thats it.

Ran small squares for a long time, still have my NH 575 in the barn, been unused for 5 years now. All serviced, greased and ready to go, knotters tarped up.... Parked.

Pays me in full in November, in cash and I get to hunt on his property as well.

Dealt with the small squares and the horsey people for years and considered quitting the business and renting the land for row crops. Then along came this deal (by chance) and I've been doing it ever since. Did I say I dislike horsey people? I do. Whiny, picky no nothing about forage idiots with no money. Glad I'm done with that.

Working alone has a distinct advantage with this virus thing.
