I keep looking at them, but everything that I can find is rusted out, ready for the junk yard yet they want $10K.

You need to expand your truck search......way South!

I have been, looking all of the way down to Georgia. I was trying to find something with a manual transmission, but that's like finding the elusive unicorn.

I have a MS261 that I bet is about 20 years old, replaced the carb and hoses and its going strong.. my go to saw! But I don't do it for a living..

261 20 years old? 2010 was the first of those out in Germany.

You can convert cords to tons how else do you think the lake states figure out how many cords are on the cribs trucks?

You can convert it, and weight is used as a conversion at times, but as noted it's not an accurate conversion. A cord of Red Oak can top 3 tons when green. A cord of Red Maple weighs less than half that when ready to burn. In addition, the density varies within a species as well, depending whether it was fast-grown or slow-grown, and depending on where it was grown.

In the state of Maine, you can sell by volume (Cu. Ft or Cord), or by weight, but it is illegal to weigh it, convert the weight to cords and then sell the result by the cord.

In the State of Maine, it is against the law to sell wood by the cord. It either has to be by the Load, or by Weight.

It is completely legal to sell wood by the cord in Maine. You can sell by volume (cubic feet or cord) or by weight. What is illegal is to weigh the wood then use a volume conversion factor and sell b that converted volume

From the State of Maine Revised Statutes:
Title 10: COMMERCE AND TRADE
Part 6: WEIGHTS AND MEASURES
Chapter 501: WEIGHTS AND MEASURES LAW
Subchapter 2-A: MEASUREMENT OF WOOD
ァ2364
ァ2363-A. Measurement of wood
1. Cubic measure and standard cord. In all wood transactions the volume of wood may be measured in cubic feet or by the standard cord as provided for by the state sealer.
[PL 1983, c. 804, ァ6 (NEW).]
2. Weight scale. When agreed upon by the parties, weight measurement may be used in all wood transactions, under the following conditions:
A. The weight measurement may not be converted to volume...

One thing I haven’t seen is someone in industry here who’s selling logs, how are you guys getting scaled at the mills. Here everything is what’s called Scribner C it’s only the measurement of length, top diameter under the bark, and for defect. With this scale you loose your butt with long small top stuff depending on taper, now to throw into the mix what the mills require is a minimum length per load or per week maybe per month of say 33’ or 34 so they get their over run.

Any log rule is based on those measurements, the only difference is the calculations used to come up with the board feet. I know what you mean about losing scale, spruce on my lot are like carrots 14" on the butt but only 40 feet to a 4 " top. They wouldn't be worth selling if they weren't bought on weight.

Rob, your trailer is bursting at the seams. You really give it a workout.
Yeaaa well, when I bought that wagon body, it was really nice, I hauled grain in it. It's been a LONG time since I needed it for grain, so I just quit putting all the work and time it takes into it, to keep it nice.

I just figured the he!! with it, and started using it for wood and it didn't take long it to start getting dented and bent up, but who cares, it's just piece of machinery, and I'm using it for it's best use around for here now. This thing is saving me money every time I use it, especially when I
