Analogy: decades ago, the FDA decided to regulate medical device manufacturers like they did for drug companies. (2 distinctly different industries) Wisely, the medical device industry asked themselves, "Why don't we propose some reasonable regulations that will address the FDA's concerns, rather than have the FDA write a bunch of crazy sshhiitt from scratch?

On a side note re medical device regulation: The Obama administration decided to also TAX medical devices, including PPE, such as masks. That is why a lot of our mask production moved offshore and weve had difficulty obtaining them recently

****? Heck, any war zone that the U.S. has been in we've gone door to door and look what that gets you. Those are armed soldiers and they can't find all the weapons. If anyone thinks the police could go door to door in an urban environment and find all the weapons in any reasonable amount of time, they're sadly mistaken. It would take weeks and months to search every nook and cranny in every home, garage, outbuilding, vehicle, apartment building, you name it, in just a small area, let alone a section of a city.

Door to door searches for guns are about 10-20 years away from beginning here in the US. I wouldnt be surprised if Chicago, NYC or even VA leads the way. The British soldiers did it here when we were a colony-one of the reasons we revolted and defeated them.

Seeing how the tax was applied equally to both imported and domestically produced items, and did not apply to items made in the U.S. meant for export, I doubt that's the reason any mask production moved offshore. Profit is the driving reason for production leaving the U.S. Labor costs too much here. Plain and simple.

No satellites, but we do have the shot spotter system here in town. Pinpoints sound of gunfire within milliseconds through triangulation between microphones mounted around town. Gets the cops there quick. Doesn't prevent shootings much, but saves a lot of victims and they have caught a few with it.

With all the regulations, union wages and high taxes to start here, I cant see how a medical equipment tax helps ensure more medical equipment is made here. Taxes KILL profitability.
I am not aware of US government being able to tax a foreign companys products. They can put a tarriff on them

Wouldn't you rather have a legal document that says you sold gun with serial number 12345 to joe smith on 01/02/2020 VS the cops coming to your house asking where the gun is and you can't tell them?

And, on that same note, wouldn't you rather find out at a gun dealer while they're doing a background check on joe smith, that he's got a criminal record and is legally not allowed to own a firearm before you sell it to him?

Or would you rather just say, I don't know anything about joe smith, but he has cash, so here you go.

I agree with you MossRoad. As long as it isn't used as a means to establish a gun registry.
