An elderly couple from our church came out to visit yesterday, people in their suburban neighborhood have started sitting around in their driveways playing guitar and singing. They got to meet neighbors they have lived near for years and never took time to get acquainted with. Kind of turned back the clock to the pre-air conditioning days when people used to sit on their porches, and everyone knew their neighbors well.

Apple Data Shows Shelter-In-Place Is Ending, Whether Governments Want It To Or Not

Seems like this movement is gaining ground internationally. Were it is good or bad we will find out. I expected it to only last 30 in the land of the free but it made it 45 days locally. Yesterday cars would not get off US 641 to line up 2 deep at McDonalds.

We, (Americans) wouldn't have an apple, peach, head of lettuce, gallon of milk, or a chicken thigh without these incredibly hard working migrants or illegals. It is shameful how we treat those that do so much for our well being.
I think we Americans would figure it out. I don't have respect for those that break our laws, regardless of who they are.

Yeah, we'd think we'd figure it out, yet since what, the 60s', few "Americans" will take those jobs. Too hard of work for too little pay/no benefits. So who's gonna harvest it?

Here is a very important upside to the Wuhan virus

The recently released CDC information blurb contains these "comforting" observations.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Nationally, visits to outpatient providers and emergency departments (EDs) for illnesses with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 continued to decline and are below baseline nationally and in many regions of the country. They remain elevated in the northeast and northwest.

O The decrease in the percentage of people presenting for care with ILI and CLI may be due to a decline in COVID-19 illness. Reported levels of activity may be decreasing because of widespread adoption of social distancing efforts and changes in healthcare seeking behavior.

O Little influenza virus activity has been reported in recent weeks.

O The overall cumulative COVID-19 associated hospitalization rate is 40.4 per 100,000, with the highest rates in people 65 years and older (131.6 per 100,000) and 50-64 years (63.7 per 100,000).

o Hospitalization rates for COVID-19 in adults (18-64 years) are higher than hospitalization rates for influenza at comparable time points* during the past 5 influenza seasons.

O For people65 years and older, current COVID-19 hospitalization rates are similar to those observed during comparable time points* during recent high severity influenza seasons.

O For children(0-17 years), COVID-19 hospitalization rates are much lower than influenza hospitalization rates during recent influenza seasons.

O Based on death certificate data, the percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia, influenza or COVID-19 (PIC) decreased from 23.6% during week 16 to 14.6% during week 17which is still significantly above baseline. This is the second week of decline in this indicator, but the percentage remains high compared with any influenza season.

I took a trip over to the boat launches today and they were packed. I wanted to pay my launch fee early but there were no tickets left. When I drove along the river there were cars and people everywhere and no one was safe distancing. I have never seen it like this except on a perfect Memorial Day weekend. I saw ZERO masks. Our covid numbers are still high here....not good.

If times are hard enough and we stop handing out 'free' money... it will get harvested. I would rather pay more for food and commodities instead of more in taxes.

The only thing that is shameful is the fact that anyone here illegally is nothing but a slap in the face of everyone that comes here legally to work...only the misguided see it differently...
Would you say their employers are shameful too?

There's something going on that attracts those folks here. What could it be?

I saw boats this afternoon coming back from KY Lake area. The traffic is getting up towards pre COVID-19 levels on the roads around here. McDonald's double drive thru was backed up into the street. One report Wendy's had pulled the triple option because of the shortage of beef patties. No question people are pulling the plug on the shelter at home suggestion. Officially May 25 most businesses are go be open again. McDonald's Thank You meals for medical and police officers seems to be a hit. I am having to leave the house 30 minutes earlier because of the long lines and normally the wife does not want to eat at McDonald's. Not sure why but a lot of people seem to like free food. :)

^+1 I worked with a gal that emigrated from Germany, she was quite outspoken against the illegal immigrants. It should also be noted that the migrant farm workers can come in legally, the H2A program gets them a temporary work permit visa.
