A little late to the party, but:

Hornets from **** | National Geographic - YouTube

If Japanese honeybees could develop a strategy, hopefully so can "American" honeybees.

May have to import some Japanese honey bees.

To fight the Japanese beetle, USDA send folks to Japan to figure out why they weren't an issue there when they first started hitting us here hard in the 70's. They discovered a bacteria in the soil there that killed attacked the beetle in the grub stage.....milky spore because it turns the grubs a milky color before they die.....and brought it back here and reproduced it in quantity.

Our local ag extension was selling it cheap, dipping what you wanted to buy out of 55gal drums in the 80's. You put it out once, and the spore lives in the soil forever after that and spreads out. No longer see the beetles here in much quantity.

These things are scary. I sure hope we can keep them from spreading here.

I'll have to find the source again, but the story seems to have been hyped, over one dead wasp. The bug-person claims that the only colony found here in the US of A was destroyed last year some time.

Wasn't there something about the Asian carp invading our waterways also.? Threatening our fresh water fish.

They fly too. There have been stories of people being knocked out of boats by them. Some places, you'll find them on bridges where they've jumped out of the water. Big push on to keep them out of the Great Lakes.

Sensationalism for sure at the onset.
There’s been stories like this in the past. The python definitely was legitimate, they are now part of the Florida animal kingdom.

If they admit that there was a colony, it's very unlikely that the entire presence was eradicated. How many, if any escaped and formed another is unknown. We're talking a small bug is a very large area. It's entirely reasonable to believe that at least one got away. And like any other bug, there's never just one.

Like one of the closing lines in the 'Night Gallery' episode, 'The Caterpillar' ... females lay eggs ....

Kinda like fleas, if you see one there are really hundreds. Better be proactive on this one, particularly since there will likely be very few if any predators to it.
