Yet they still have more payload and towing capacity than the F250 of years ago... and are more comfortable to ride in, to boot. Plus there's more iron in the frame than on an '80s vintage C-30, D3500, or F350. If somebody tows/carries on a regular basis then they can buy a heavier truck. To do so just because their neighbor down the road or some guy on an internet forum thinks they should doesn't make sense to me.

People seem to forget that. my 18 F150 5.0 will run circles around my dads 98 F250

Well, yeah, I didn’t think we were comparing an 80’s version 3/4 ton to a new heavy 1/2 ton.
When I was a kid, we were farming hay with a 40Hp Farmall now we’re using 150-200 HP tractors.

Amazing how often the EGO figures into that. A persons own worst enemy. A friend who is a simple hard working (succesful) man always comes home with the most expensive trucks offered, simply because he can't bear to have anything less than the next guy that may drive in. Just bought a thirty something K Gator! He's got the money, but I feel sorry for him, being governed by EGO.

I had a 2011 F150 with eco with the HD, then had a 2015 F150 with eco. The 2015 mentioned nothing of being heavy duty but had the same if not higher specs on everything the 2011 did. Did the package disappear and just become standard.

I think if you go build and price one you'll see what I mean. Crew 6.5 bed with either a 5.0 or the bigger ecoboost allows you to add the heavy payload package.

Perhaps not, but my comment is still appropriate in reference to these comments...
I just have to laugh at how small and light duty of a truck it is compared to heavier trucks. Youre paying for a legacy of 40 years bragging rights and luxury more than capability of bigger trucks.

Nahhhh, the F150 is the weekend warrior truck.

You buy a 6.0 GM truck because you want something that will do anything you ask of it and never break, and on the off chance it does break, it doesn't cost much to fix.

The repair costs associated with diesels are astronomical and all of them have emissions and fuel system issues. Yes, you can go faster up a hill with a diesel.

There is a reason that GM sold a ton of 6.0 trucks to corporate fleets and contractors.

They don’t have issues until they have issues. I’m not having any issues right now, just filling the tank with diesel and driving. And I don’t own one to go faster up a hill. I own one because theres no gas engine even close to being able to accomplish the tasks I have. A 6L will not do anything you ask it to do. It has limitations short of the diesel offering. Well short, in fact.
But I agree the 6L is a fine engine as most of the bigger GM engines are.

Yet it's his money, and his choice. My experience however, is that people who have a little money because they worked for it don't spend on frivolous items which others feel is a necessity.

That's kind of why I feel sorry. Really is a good case of diminishing returns on money spent. Many of the Gimmicks never get used or even are known how they work. Just so you can say, you have 90K (CDN) sitting there.

They should offer an option. A big bright LED display that indicates CURRENT value. I know. At least Diesel Pickups hold their value better. Man, heard "SCOTTY" talking about depreciation rates of expensive luxury cars. They just plummet in value!

But will your F150 still be around in 22 years, like your dads 1998 F-250?
Id be willing to bet it wont.
Heavier built trucks just hold up longer because they are built heavier. Comparing a truck 20 years newer is sort of ridiculous. I mean were all intelligent enough to know vehicles are performance and ratings driven. Heck in 5 years many vehicles are somewhat dated. 20 is an eternity.

Ill tell you one place theyre going backwards is repair costs. Its evermore difficult to repair DIY and its intentional.

Most likely became standard. Competition and customer demands keep pushing these trucks to higher and higher limits as the years roll on.
