You buy a 6.0 GM truck because you want something that will do anything you ask of it and never break, and on the off chance it does break, it doesn't cost much to fix.

The repair costs associated with diesels are astronomical and all of them have emissions and fuel system issues. Yes, you can go faster up a hill with a diesel.

There is a reason that GM sold a ton of 6.0 trucks to corporate fleets and contractors.

The 6.0 is ok not great and does have its drawbacks. Its over 10 year old tech, the 6.2 has better Hp and Torque and better torque band. The only reason I think its around is because its probably cheap to make by now.

Most likely became standard. Competition and customer demands keep pushing these trucks to higher and higher limits as the years roll on.

What irks me is you see commericals about say a 3500 and the new towing of of 30k lbs or whatever model and size. I get it brakes are better in most trucks along with trannys and engines. But I have to wonder what is legit safe and practical specially with non trained and properly licensed drivers for the weight.

But will your F150 still be around in 22 years, like your dads 1998 F-250?
Id be willing to bet it wont.
Heavier built trucks just hold up longer because they are built heavier.

Probably not, nor do I care. Just not logical to keep a vehicle more than 10 years as an every day user. I dont keep mine past 3-5 anyways. Part of it is, vehicles start costing money in the 5-10 year range and second I make enough to not drive old. That 98 is a plow truck and doesnt leave the yard, nor should it.

Amazing how often the EGO figures into that. A persons own worst enemy. A friend who is a simple hard working (succesful) man always comes home with the most expensive trucks offered, simply because he can't bear to have anything less than the next guy that may drive in. Just bought a thirty something K Gator! He's got the money, but I feel sorry for him, being governed by EGO.

Never know what people make. Can make guesses and can judge I guess. But some people make the money and it has to be spent somewhere. Some people dont make money and just spend what they dont have, and lastly there are those that decide I want a pricey truck but dont take trips or buy clothes. hard to say. We arent rich by any means. But getting to the mid point in our careers or close to it, and we do dang good all considered, sometimes Im just going to buy what i want and this is talking from people that dont have CC debt, drop thousands upon thousands into 401s, and have a healthy debt to income ration.

Well if they dont prove the specs they claim to safely accomplish, theyll be in heap big trouble once theres a problem with an accident.

Its just a big ego and show off competition and many owners never tow more than a trailer hitch

True. But there is no denying how much money is spent on trucks simply for "status".

My Dad on the other hand bought a Sprinter that came standard with AC and had them delete it (As UPS Does) so he could save some small amount of money! Certain he would have deleted the power windows and locks too if that was possible. Came back to haunt him when he was in the middle of nowhere and needed a new blower motor and no one had his weird (no AC) one! lol

Im with ya. I just think the big three advertise something like 30klbs or something. Just thinking what actually 30k looks like and its nothing that most average joe blow has in terms of boats or trailers. Even equipment for commerical take a lot to get there.

Heavier built trucks just hold up longer because they are built heavier. Comparing a truck 20 years newer is sort of ridiculous. I mean were all intelligent enough to know vehicles are performance and ratings driven. Heck in 5 years many vehicles are somewhat dated. 20 is an eternity.

Ill tell you one place theyre going backwards is repair costs. Its evermore difficult to repair DIY and its intentional.

My father's '99 K1500 is, and he used that harder than it was meant to be used. Around here they rust out long before the drive line wears out, which is why we're retiring that truck.
Again, it goes back to how you are using it; if somebody is hauling on a regular basis like you are it makes sense to have something heavier duty. For somebody who merely hauls a camper or tractor occasionally but has just one truck as their only vehicle, that 1/2 ton is perfect for their needs. Just because you're a farmer and need a bigger truck doesn't mean there's something wrong with people who don't.

Maybe I can help you visualize?

That's about 185 full kegs of beer... :drink:

"SCOTTY" was talking about what a rip off a 15 Chevy Silerado was and how he would never own one. The Condenser was leaking. A 16 hour (as I recall) repair job! And a lot of other cheap garbage components, as I can attest to on my HD Duramax!
