Talk me out of A BX23s

The backhoe would be useful for some landscaping and other projects- if I don't buy it with the tractor, I'll never buy it and will kick myself for not getting it.

It's good that you know yourself that well. Just yesterday I did something similar. I have a 26 hour used BX2380 coming to me from Barlow Farm Equipment in Kentucky (I live on the NY/Canada border).
I'm in the midst of waiting for delivery and the more I thought about it, the more I considered a loader. Got a price from them yesterday and told them to install one before they bring the tractor to me. Basically same money as aftermarket that I'd seen online and I don't have to install it. The tractor already has the basic loader valve on it.
I've got a Bobcat S185 to do most everything else but it's very heavy to cross a wet lawn with and leaves wheel tracks that jar the wife or me when mowing. It weighs in around 6600.
I did check out a Mahindra at a dealer that's only 3 miles from me. Nice little tractor and a great dealer owner. Also looked at JD but the dealer returned my call to tell me he had the model I was considering on the lot and he would get back to me on pricing. That was 2 weeks ago.
When Brady Barlow gave me a figure on that 26 hour BX with belly mower it saved me $2500 from anything local, even with the delivery charge.
As far as accessories, you know best your layout and situation. I've heard zero turns mentioned. Great for some. I've owned 2 and found that they were worthless when things got wet. I switched to a 4 wheel steer JD lawn tractor. I have a 73 inch snow blower for my Bobcat. It's nice but pretty much gets used 2-3 times most winters. Other than that the bucket handles things just fine and much faster. I had a backhoe attachment for the Bobcat also. I found that it sat around. I think I planted 2 trees with it in 2 years. That's since been sold.

Hope you don't mind sending it back to KY for warranty or service work, or waiting until a local dealer gets around to it. Lots of stories about local dealers either refusing to service machines from distant dealers or putting them at the very end of any service wait lists.

And don't forget to report your out of state purchase on your NY taxes:

Sales and use tax

Anyone opt out of Kubotas Insurance and get your own policy? I've been a bit buried at the office and have not had a chance to call my insurance company to get a quote to cover the limits Kubota requires. They want to charge a $2700 insurance policy if I choose 0% financing (not quite 0% when they are collecting that kind of premium)

I was quoted $162 a year for Kubota insurance. You'll have more attachments but that's a pretty large premium difference. For 5 years that's about $540 per year. Maybe it's replacement cost on tractor and all attachments instead of depreciated value?
To cover the tractor on my home policy would have been an additional $103 per year but covered much less as far as damage while using or transporting. And I'm told that Kubota won't accept the coverage of many insurance companies as sufficient enough.
Mahindra offered an ACV policy for an additional $9 per month on a 5 year loan.

I'll take that chance. Locals don't seem to return calls or care if they sell me a unit or not. The one Kubota quote I did receive was ridiculous.
I have 2 words for the state of New York's taxes. And they ain't "happy motoring". As a business owner they clip me for quite enough annually. Are you an employee of NYS Taxation & Finance? If not, don't concern yourself with another person's transactions.

I got my insurance through State Farm instead of John Deere. About the same price. My way of thinking on 0% was I got free insurance for a few years because it is not really 0% when you have to buy insurance.

When shopping for my first tractor, more than a few members advised to not get a backhoe. Their suggestion was just hire out any backhoe work. I bought a MF GC1710 with backhoe and am glad I did.

I've used it to pick up and transport large rocks (using added thumb), dig a trench for electrical line between buildings, yank out 50 year old juniper bushes, dig a trench for irrigation water, dig a trench to add irrigation sprinklers, and so much more. I also own a Ditch Witch trencher for the really long piping runs, but I've found the extra utility of the backhoe is very valuable for me. I just ordered the "root ripper" from Bxpanded as there are some larger trees I want to remove. So for me, there has been no shortage of projects where the backhoe was very valuable to have.

BINGO !!!!

Congrats CJinNH on your purchase - what configuration and options did you finally settle on for your BX23S? Chappell Tractor or Mears Tractor or?

Went through Chappell tractor, the Brentwood location is 6.5 miles from my house. I am getting the BX23s-FEL w/quick disconnect bucket & bolt on blade, backhoe with mechanical thumb, 54" drive over mower, land pride 5' back blade. I finally showed my wife today what I've been researching the past few weeks, I now have 152 projects ahead of me...
