A few years back propane powered trimmers and yard equipment was everywhere,, now nothing?

What happened to them? was there an issue besides the small green propane canisters could not be re-filled??

Looking for a small 4 stroke propane trimmer engine,,, for a project with my son.

Most small gasoline engines are easily converted to propane. That would be just one more project on top of a project.

Now, I am pretty old, and have seen a lot of things, but I have never seen, nor heard of a propane powered string trimmer. Or any other lawn and garden power tool...It is as if you had said , "back when I was a kid the sun came up in the west". Or something similar.

Can't say that no more:

All I see is new though, not something you'd want to scavenge the engine off of for a hobby.

So why would anyone want to spend 3 or 4 times as much for propane fuel and lug around a heavy 4 stroke engine with a steel cylinder hung under it and create all of that landfill waste? No wonder I had never heard of them. Who would buy one? I sure wouldn't. Yes, I know the little cylinders could be refilled, but most people do no know how, and it is difficult to completely refill them, and it takes time, and you really need a freezer to put the cylinder into etc. But at least I can say I have seen one now. Or at least an image on one. :) With the proliferation of battery powered yard tools, I bet those propane ones sell like hotcakes. :)

Right. What would be the point? Not like you are using it indoors. Less bang for the buck.

Curious now that I think about it. It would require oil injection for a 2 stroke or be four stroke.

Apparently a 4 stroke, which means more weight.. And lets see... would need to remove cylinder after use and store in a non enclosed space because if the fuel hose ruptured (under pressure) and emptied the cylinder it would fill your garage with a nice fuel/gas mixture, and one light switch spark, and it blows your garage out. :).. could happen.

14 to 15 lbs WITHOUT the fuel canister.. depending on which model.
