Really Ticked!!!!

One thing about ticks, and we're inundated with all kinds here in South Central Virginia, last Fall I was helping build horse stable and one day weak as a kitten. I went to a local clinic asking for bloodwork for ticks. They refused...I refused to leave without them drawing blood (I have no clue why I was thinking ticks). Finally they did, the doctor called in few days negative for tick disease...then called me next day, I was positive for RMST (Rocky Mt. tick), prescribed doxycycline antibiotic. I caught it early.
Recently I had Lone Star tick bites that left very large red patches. I called family doctor, again doxycycline.
Point is my only symptom was extremely weak, no fever.
Tick bites can be very serious. If any question have blood work done asap!

The lone star tick carries a disease which makes people allergic to red meat.

And Lyme disease. We have deer and those larger ticks around these parts and the reason we spray our outdoor clothing with permithrin.

I love Guinea痴. Intend to have a few someday.

Chickens will keep scorpions down and it seems like Guinea fowl would be just as good as chickens but I致e never heard that about Guinea痴.

I had no idea that chickens eat scorpions, but it makes sense they eat bugs the size of scorpions. So...I imagine that guineas would eat scorpions, too.

Count me as one of those that had no idea that chickens ate scorpions.

We don't have them here, so I didn't know that either. I also have never gotten a tick on my property, so don't worry much about them here either. I do know that foxes love free ranging poultry; as do raccoons, coyotes, weasels...

Yeah, a few years ago I saw one of my chickens uncover a nest of baby mice in my barn. In seconds a bunch more chickens showed up and they gobbled them all down. My chickens will sometimes catch adult mice by the tail, and they flip them up and swallow them whole.

It's March friggin' sixth and I just pulled one of these miserable blood suckers off of me!!!!!

I thought a week of bitter cold would deal with them. Instead it seems to have brought them out early.
