I have a Harbor Freight 4 x 6 horizontal band saw that I have more than gotten my money's worth out of, but its showing its age. Plus I've broken and re-welded one of the castings twice performing a gravity check with the saw.
I'm looking for an upgrade replacement and I'm willing to spend some money. But everything I see just looks a rebadged Harbor Freight unit.

Anyone have any recommendations on a mid level horizontal band saw? Something in the ~ 7 x 12 size.

I just sold a 7x12 today. I think for mid level machines they are all the same just painted different colours. Put a quality blade on, ditch the coolant system and use a lube stick.

Have a grizzly 4x6” for over 30 years. Have cut the equivalent of a battle ship in half. Lots and lots of blades and one belt. If it ever dies I would like an Ellis. US made and makes good miter cuts. A used one if I could find one.

I bought an old Three Rivers saw at auction. Cheap. Probably fifty years old and I got parts for it last year! Out of Michigan.

What do they say? Buy Quality, buy it once.

I found a trashed Ellis a few years back. It’s the ONLY used one I have ever seen for sale.

I have an old Ellis 1000 that I horse traded for back in the mid 80's. I also use a Baileigh that has a quick miter option. What gets used the most is the Evolution slide miter dry saw that I also horse traded for. I know the Rep so I beg for blades quite regularly.

Those poor horses must be worn out by now....

For small stuff, the 20V DeWalt handheld does it. For some things the Harbor Freight horizontal a bud sold me for $50 works well. For really serious cuts, they go along to work and I use the HyD-Mech. That does something like 16x18.

9 in. Metal Cutting Band Saw | Princess Auto

Works well. The Coolant pump died on mine after 2 years. Went to the store and they told me to bring back the whole saw and they壇 give me a brand new saw. I told them I didnt want to cart the saw back just for a pump, so they gave me the head office email address and they couriered a brand new pump for me no charge.

Thank you princess auto for great service.

That Grizzly is the exact same saw as the Harbor Freight

Think grizzly are build to higher specification than HF though they may look identical... Associate of mine has Grizzly one, I'm impressed with it.... Anything is better then the $259.99 ones.... But I am using really old Craftsman Profession that is really tired I got for $20 because stupid people I bought it from did not know as it cuts on left hand side the blade needed to be turned inside out....

Not my pic, but identical saw...

Have one of those "Gypsy" 9x16 horizontal saws from the eighties. Bought it used for $125 many years ago. Works ok, not too precise. Bought a HF deep cut porta band that my daughter brought for me when she visited, crapped the bed while cutting some 2x4 x.188 tube for my forks. Let out the magic smoke. Finally stepped up to a Milwaukee deep cut corded porta band. Use it more than any other.

I get some pleasure when cutting on the bandsaw, with it purring away while I work on something else. It finishes the cut and turns itself off, waiting for the next cut to be set up. No sparks and little noise. And when it's done and I put a square on the cut to check, that brings a smile to my face.
