New shooting deck

A sawyer friend of mine has people who come by and get those cutoffs for their outdoor wood boilers. My neighbor leaves his trailer there. When it's full, the neighbor goes picks it up, empties it and then takes it back.

The neighbor has (mostly) free wood and the sawyer stacks and loads once and never has to deal with it again. And it gets burned far more efficiently than just open air burning, plus the energy is actually used vs. wasted. Win, win,win, win.

I don't cut enough to make that all worthwhile, and I don't particularly want people coming by all the time to get stuff. I'm isolated out here and like it!

Went out shooting yesterday morning.. 94% humidity , I was dripping wet by the end.

Wasn't real pleased how my little bench was working out with my new rest... so I built a new one this morning (just needs final assembly after treating it).

First one has a sectioned top, gave me some problems with moving the rest around. Second one is getting a 3/4" plywood top. I'm not big on using plywood outside, I triple coated it with preservative we will see how it does. May add a coat of paint.. maybe

Changed the leg height to give me a better sitting position..

Changed the distance between the seat and the top to better facilitate a better shoulder weld on the gun. Less of a crouched feeling.

And made the whole thing 5" narrower, did not need all the width of the first one.

The other day when I was shooting ,I took a tape measure and took measurements and notes on things that concerned me.. hoping this is a good improvement.

So I got the measurements/plans for the first one (brown) off the internet, and as I like to do with everything I altered them to fit my purpose better.

I like the bench, but that makes me ask, do you know a lefty that uses the other seat of the bench??

I do not, but you never know. Also someone can sit there and catch the hot brass!!:laughing:

The width gives the bench more stability also.

My better half is lefty, but she shoots righty also. Speaking of catching hot brass, many moons ago I was out with a buddy putting some rounds through the 30cal carbine. He was behind me and to my right, he moved forward a little and squat down & wouldn't you know it, a shell right down his shirt, still has a light brown spot where it hit near his shoulderblade.
He learned not a good spot to be!

you hunt 4570 [what you shooten there tex ] is a line from a old movie or tv show I forgot . Another line we use from old movie is[ nice shooten tex]. Just a running joke. What cal. is the bolt action in the rest ? Most people are into AR 's now a days . I shoot a Rem. 700 bdl 30/06 ,leopeuld vx6 boone and crocket 50mm ,bi pod home made raised cheek piece to much other crap to list . I started shooten Hornaday custom lite 125 g sst cause I have 2 hernated discs in my back and I can't take the recoil anymore. I would like to buy a lower recoil rifle but I am torn between a Ruger 77 / 17 and another Rem. 700 vtr in 223.:confused3: Just looken to see what else is out there.:drink:
