Not sure if I have any constructive criticism other than what I've conveyed to you except to say to say that when a thread goes south (any thread on any sub forum), it usually has a select group of posters (like 4), putting holes in the hull and sinking the ship. That plays out 99% of the time and always the same select group. It's like they hover over the forum, like vultures waiting to pounce.

Then they go for the jugular and the thread gets closed. Seen that play out time and time again on here.

Addressing that, you already know my response to that issue.

+1... get rid of less than half a dozen people and the problem is solved. Two warnings, then third strike "YOUR OUT!"

I’m new to TBN, but not new to forums. I find and join a forum for all things I have an interest in. Trucks/cars/sleds/boats/my shop/...tractors. 20 years and thousands of posts across them all.

One common factor is people’s lack of couth once they’re able to hide behind the anonymity of the internet and a keyboard. That ALWAYS leads to pot stirrers enjoying their sport.

I am guilty of feeding the trolls years ago, and have gotten my fair share of threads closed because of my intemperate early forum years. Today, I just click away and dismiss the thread/post.

I've kind thought about new models for moderation that could reward the good and purge the not so good with some degree of accuracy... let me know if you have suggestions for something like that outside of just more moderation.

Thread reopened for constructive feedback.

Other than Post Moderation previously mentioned, how about letting Thread Starters moderate their own threads. Let them clean up their own.

I only see 6 Moderators listed and at least one of them hasn't been active in a couple of years. I see 7 Admins listed, 4 of which I've never seen post and one only does Welcomes. I'm guessing the others are test accounts or handle software changes and updates.

Some of the Spam threads sit for hours before anyone acts.

I will not pretend to be innocent, but it amazes me how many pots call the kettle black on this and other threads!

How can people be so blind to their own faults??

I think in many cases, some self searching is in order!

And 3 of them have posted on this thread without adding to the discussion or presenting suggestions.

There are a few that will always just never get it and never understand that "they" are the problem.

Maybe a block button to make those people not exist would eventually take away the attention that they are after and they will go away.

There is an Ignore Member feature, but I try not to use it. Every once in a while even the most troublesome toss out a morsel worth reading.

Muhammad the Apple forums use a points system that is crowdsourced. For instance if I help someone and they click my post was helpful (you cant say a post wasn稚 helpful) then I get points. Points go to levels, so the person asking a question can see how helpful overall I have been.

This does a few things. First, it cuts down on the political banter (just focus on the question at hand). Second it lets a new person know that the one posting a potential solution has a bunch of experience in answering others.

What it doesnt help with is threads that arent related to a question. Threads that are unrelated to tractors and the like. I dont have any good suggestions for those. I am a pro 1st amendment type and do not think online platforms should be able to silence anyone. Short of crimes they should all be allowed.

We can稚 censor individuals to any real effect..that just takes too much moderator work and opens up for violations of 1st amendment (see google, facebook, etc telling the population what they 都hould listen to?

What about an upvote/downvote system like reddit? Not sure how I feel about that one but I do read reddit posts from time to time. They have a great Starlink community.

The simple truth is with online communication we are less human. We dont have the connection to that other person we had 20 years ago (met them in person) so we are fine with being offensive and hurtful to others. The irony here is I am a child of pre and computer ages. I lived when they didnt exist (up to about 16) then when they have. Their has been profound advantages and disadvantages to having a way of communicating with others instantly.

If I think of other suggestions I will post.

^^ I'm not in favor of any form of popularity system. They go bad fast.

I can’t agree that TBN isn’t enjoyable. I’ve learned so much from the forum that I can never repay. I’ve learned if I want to dive into the seedy world of current events, Facebook has all I can stomach.

The moderators have a tough job and closing threads is an appropriate action.
