Driveway gate recommendation?

In all my travels thru Ea WA I think I can remember two or three gates that obviously had some form of automated gate system. Most have no gate or a cattle guard at the entrance. I have two gates because my driveway runs right thru range land. The outer gate keeps the cows in - the inner gate keeps the cows off my property. Gates are a WHOLE lot cheaper than cattle guards.

About the time you install some form of cheap cattle guard - you will need a concrete truck or gravel truck on your property. One look at your cheap cattle guard and they will be turning around and you will be charged mileage for the round trip.

Many have dual entrances - a cattle guard and a swinging gate. The swinging gate is for the heavy trucks.

Did you buy from them? It looks like the better models with the swinging arm are just a little bit more at the $1,600 range. That's more then I wanted to spend, but in the long term, I agree with you that it will be cheaper then buying lower end models and then replacing them all the time.

No, that was just an example. The company I bought from is no longer in business because they made the best opener EVER.....all mechanical switching inside, not a single electronic anything other than the radio receiver (and I used a Genie universal receiver because all my doors are Genie, and I can use one of the buttons for the gate and a door at the house....far enough away they don't interfere). Govt regulations killed the opener I have. But I can basically rebuild it forever with off the shelf stuff.

I have prehistoric BFT openers. No wireless capabilities as they were installed 26 years ago. I haven’t found a need to upgrade the system.





They have been problem free.

Ah, ha - asphalt driveway - concrete curb & gutter. The best I can expect at my outer gate - hoof prints and great piles of cow shyte. Beyond the undercoating on my pickup - the wheel wells have a fantastic coating of cow poo as a layer of protection.

Never heard of this brand. Did you get the single swing or double gate opener?

The double. I liked the stainless steel.build. Had several install questions, mostly about solar, and got prompt, helpful replies.

This is the gate I had. I had the slide gate. I did not have all the features you are looking for but they have most of them. Check the bottom of their web page. They stand behind their product.

Don't forget the exit wand and put it about 50 yards from the gate inside the property. That way when exiting by the time you slow roll up to the gate it's opened.

I have a simple, basic Mighty Mule. Takes multiple codes and a keypad or card reader. Not sure about a camera/intercom.

UPS has their own code that I can enter on the shipping information page on their site. So does FedEx.

Thats what I have. Just recess the gate ~40 Feet into the driveway for the deliveries and build a doghouse for the packages to go into, or give him a temporary or valet code.
