Thanks for the input everyone.

The towing capacity is 7200 for the JGC with eco-diesel and factory tow package. Which has someone mentioned is similar to many half-ton pickups. The usage would be shorter trips and I would not expect to be fully loaded except on a very rare occasion.

The trailers I have been looking at 10' in length and all seem to be in the 2,000 to 2,600 pound range. Still a decent payload as compared to a truck bed.

I hadn't thought about the differences between single and double axle - but I haven't seen any 7000lb GVW trailers with double axle in my local area. Maybe i need to look harder to see what that option looks like.

That really looks like alot more than 1800# of trailer.

Curious where you came up with the number? Have you weighed it? MFG spec? or trusting what was on the title for tagging it?

Dont know of other states, but my state.....tags are based on empty weight....so lighter = cheaper. And I have seen many times people "weigh" their trailers simply by pulling the axles on the scales but never unhook from truck. This gives a lower number as it doesnt include tongue weight. But gives them a weight slip to take to BMV and get tags (falsely cheaper tags)

We have a a 5x10 PJ 7K dual axle at the house. Empty weight is about 2100 lb. The width is nice because the wheel width pretty much matches the tow vehicle, no worries about the trailer footprint when on narrow roads/bridges. You do have to watch backing with the shorter trailers if you have a long tow vehicle, you can get the trailer kinked farther than you can correct, without going forward, pretty quickly.

No complaints about the PJ. Ours has double doors, so no option for gravel spreading, but we generally are just dumping material into a pile.

BTW, if you have a power up/power down system you can pretty easily adapt an inexpensive wireless remote winch controller to run the hydraulics with a bit of creative wiring & a couple of diodes. No changes to the OEM wiring needed & < $50. ( https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...279-added-inexpensive-wireless-remote-pj.html )

a 12 foot sure-trac here---have pulled it with the explorer a lot---just not at road speeds and loaded to the hilt. ---Mostly pull it with the f-350 diesel poochmobile and get along fine. total weight loaded with the f-350 on it is 21,000 and yes I do have a CDL to use it!---Here in IL. ANYTHING over 20,000 requires it.

I thought you said you wanted a single axle dump

If you did, Lamar has 5x10 single 7000 axle dumps.

Wat. Thats crazy light. My neighbors 6x10 10k dual axles dump trailer weighs 2900 lbs. Only accepts 7k of payload. Color me skeptical that a 6x12, dual axle dump trailer with brakes could come in that light.

I was off slightly, 2540# by the website. (Bri-Mar)

I don't have the document with me to prove it to you. I am vacationing in my Georgia property. Paperwork is in Florida. The trailer is built light. No side wall stiffeners or fenders. Single swing rear door.

I have a 7 x 12 big tex. I had to go bigger due to the size of my tractor. I like the dual axles. It weights in at 3800 lbs with a 10,000 lb payload. And it does have a 3 way gate. I know this is a good bit bigger than you want, but thought that I would say a few things. It has built in ramps, but the height of the bed makes it real interesting in loading it. I think most dump trailers that I see have high decks. I can spread gravel with the gate, but unless you have someone to walk beside and raise it as you go, you will need a remote control on the dump. I haul about 4 yards of gravel or 5 yards of top soil at a time with an F250. If you step down to a size that you can pull, I would want to check the height of the deck for loading. A yard of gravel is about 2500 + lbs. Sand is about 3,000 lbs. If I didn't need to haul my tractor, I would have went with a 5 or 6 by 10. Easier to get between things for clean up.

That is why I bought a 5 by 10 dump trailer.
My big tex is 80" fender to fender wide, the same as my 3/4 ton truck.
