Backhoe Broken Joystick after 10 Hours (GC1725M/CB65)

Send a box of donuts to your dealer and say "Thanks!"

Glad you got it repaired; sounds like this is definitely a mfg issue and your dealer is willing to support you. (My old 2310 is still holding up....)

PS-- Ray: STILL on the OEM battery! (hee-hee-hee)

To follow up with this. My dealer came right out and fixed it. They also replaced the other one as well even though it wasn't broken. They said this is happening to a lot of people. However, they replaced the part with the same one that came out. Not sure if this will resurface in the near future though.

Awesome, glad they did that. I am waiting for my part to come in. I got plenty of work to do with the FEL till it comes.

Mine is also still on the OEM Battery-10 years old.

@Shuey79 and @Jboyorak - digging out a stump for my neighbor this weekend. LH Stick broke AGAIN! (4th time total). I'm afraid it WILL keep happening until MF gets the part redesigned. About to call my dealer (if he hasn't blocked my number yet!). Best of luck with yours. I will update here with any new news.

That really sux that's happening with the new GC's, it's bs Massey isn't recalling these and fixing them proper.

No intention to gloat whatsoever, but I'm really happy I got me a 2018 GC1710 near the tail end of it's series run. I remember my parents shopping for a car when I was a kid. My father would always buy a model that's been out a few years...he'd never buy a car the year of a new redesign. His claim was that there's going to be bugs in there, and he doesn't want to be the guinea pig finding them and getting them sorted out. I stick with that logic.

Thanks, Gene. Your 2018 CB65 is the older version (stabilizer controls in the middle, not off to the sides)?

Yeh, in the middle on mine. I wasn't aware they changed where those are placed on the new ones.

Spoke to MF today as well. Rep indicated he is seeing calls for this issue, but he has no word on part redesign.

From my dealer:

Morning Steve,
The is no recall and will not be any recall on this issue. Despite you
seeing some complaints from other CB65 owners the vast majority, over 92% of
the units out there are experiencing NO issues at all. Apparently the issue
is the leverage provided by the longer handles (longer than they used to be)
which provide greater leverage and if the controls are 'pined' to one side
or the other the excessive leverage applied can cause the underlying part to
fracture. They have come out with a new pivot assembly that are made to
order for the few CB65's experiencing this problem. I have some on order and
they should be in this week. Once they arrive I will let you know and we can
schedule a pickup/repair.

Thanks

My Reply:
Thanks for the update.

I spoke to MF this AM, as I feel like I shouldn't have to keep bothering you with this issue. The rep I spoke with indicated that he has received a lot of calls with owners complaining about the same issue, but that there's nothing he can do about it, and I need to work with my dealer to resolve the issue. My rapidly approaching concern is that when my 12 month warranty is up on the CB65 in September, what happens if the part breaks again? Am I then on the hook for transport, parts and labor?

I've got a dozen more fenceposts I need to get in the ground before mid-August. Whatever you can do to expedite with Agco will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

And I hope dealer is correct:
If the issue continues even after your 12 months is up, I would bet Massey will continue to stand behind it.

Had our first engine failure on a Massey 1431 tractor (purchased in 2005 !), customer brought in for service every 5 years, and it was always a mess, thick engine oil, air filter clogged etc. Well the engine finally threw a rod through the side of the block. Customer contacted Massey, we had rep out, etc. Massey actually paid for the new short block, despite our service records showing 5 year oil changes. Tractor was 15 years old.

I would not worry about Massey !

too bad you cant find any BH from my era tractor and use its joystick control. I actually backed into a tee that bent the rod but never damaged the connector or valve. As I sted before adter the GC24 and 2610s the BH seems alot cheaper-especially the stabilizer arms.
