Wow! My wife and I are looking to move to a cheaper county here in Michigan because our taxes are creeping up near $4k (we're in a rather developed county). Cannot imagine paying upwards of $20k.

Taxes can be make or break coming from one with a year over year 80% increase over what I paid for the place 18 months prior.

This is why I will rent if or when I ever move. Also, if we find the grass to be greener elsewhere, we can just move when the lease is up. We may even rent "Furnished" for even less hassle.

The house is 20K, The shop is another 4K, the auto excise tax another 4K then the tags for the cars and inspections another 2 or 3K.
Roughly 30K a year in property tax... And IMO we get very very little for that in return.

But when you live in a 2 million dollar mansion and have 4 top of the line Maserati's you've got to expect to pay taxes.

You don't like the coast of Maine in the Spring/Summer/Fall?
I don't think I have ever met anyone who felt that way.

I think I might like to move to Lower Uncton.

I've only 3 houses in two states, Mississippi and Virginia. The Mississippi rate is about 3 times what I pay and the Virginia rate about half of what I pay.

Not sure how they figure those numbers out. In Ohio property taxes vary by the school district.

Based on that chart Tomtint should be paying less than I am....and according to him he is paying about three times as much.

Look at the average home value numbers. The average home value in ohio is only $140k while in Mass it is $366k.
