I couldn't find any fat wood but did find plenty of skinny wood, this stuff has been sitting for 6 years. I got it under the cover just before the down pour, probably cut it up this weekend. Then after I soak it in gas for two weeks should be the best starting skinny wood around.

Oh no.. soak it in a gas diesel mix, wont burn up so fast! Just like starting a burn pile or controlled burn...

Looks like you should have plenty though!

For fire starter I simply fill a 5 gallon bucket with planer chips and pour in pint or so of diesel fuel. Put a lid on the bucket and in a short while the chips will absorb the fuel making a non explosive fire starter..
A small scoop will get a good fire started in no time. Been using that method for 40 years.

That seems like a better option but not many have planer chips. Wonder if it would work with sawdust?

My daughter gave me a bag of kiln dried hickory cubes for my birthday,,
that stuff burns like diesel fuel,,
I think most of us have not experienced burning dry wood.

I went and found a 8 inch hickory tree that was blown down and cut up two years ago,,
I figured I would make my own hickory fire cubes.
Then, I cut 2 inch disks off the log, as I cut them, they dropped into a 55 gallon plastic drum.

I put the drum, with the disks in the shed, with a piece of metal roofing sitting loosely on top.

The next morning, water was dripping from the underside of the metal roofing,
There was SO MUCH water coming out of that wood, and it had been cut for 2 years,,

I am amazed how much water is in that downed wood,,
I should cut some more, weigh it, then let it set, and weigh it again, just to see what weight it really looses.

Oh, yea, my hickory blocks burn slower than the kiln dried ones,, so I know they are not as dry,, yet,,,

I've used planer chips and sawdust with diesel and used oil...

I prefer "what ever I have" and use used motor oil, as I have plenty of it around and it works just fine....

Works fine with sawdust. However, I don't have enough sawdust so I buy a bale of wood chips (bedding) at Tractor Supply. I don't mix in diesel, I pour in the used oil from oil changes. Works like a charm in my shop. I use traditional kindling in the house because my wife would freak out if I brought the chips and oil inside.

Re fire starter. Sawdust will sorta work but is not as aggressive as shavings from a planner, jointer, shaper, or good ole hand plane.
The chips from a well sharpened chain saw if left to dry in the sun and soaked in diesel and yes used motor oil will work too.

Although we graduated from wood heat to geothermal in the house 12 years ago I still burn wood in my shop and in my opinion, there’s nothing better than to treck out to the shop on a blustery day with my K9 buddy and depending on the time of day, a cup of coffee or an adult beverage, pull up the comfy ole desk chair next to the stove, lean back and contemplate my next project.
It’s the ultimate in senior safe space.
