Choosing just one grease..

I agree it isn't cheap, but I didn't give quite that much for it. ~$10 if I recall. Still expensive for grease, but also a tiny drop in the bucket compared to the price of my machine. If I had a fleet of machines, I'd definitely need a cheaper alternative. As I only own one tractor, one tube of high quality synthetic grease will last me over a year. Works out to less than a dollar a month for me. I think I can swing it. Good luck with your socks though!
You brought up a good point, some here have 2 or 3 tractors plus implements, that could be a lot of greasing, but still 2 or 3 tubes will go quite far.......

You will likely see a nice improvement from the Mystik green with this Traveller grease. I attached a link to the tech data sheet(yes it's the same product).https://kynetxproducts.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/KYNETX-TDS_MD-LXM27.pdf

If it still on sale for 2.50, it's a good deal(i.e just one sock). Not a bearing grease I would recommend, so not a "just one grease" candidate, but fine for everything else (pins, u-joints, driveshafts etc.) Just watch the stains, it's on a whole new level with moly.

PS Water washout is not just about operating in water (or hurricanes), it can also help gauge the grease's ability to "stick" and stay in place. If a steady stream of hot water can't displace it, it's probably going to hold on just fine in dry usage.

I cant quite put my finger on it but it almost sounds like you know a lot about grease, cant be from just hand pump learning, and one sock would throw me off balance your gyro must be all greased up...............

The Travellers Extreme Duty 3% Moly Lithium has served us well over the years.

Yes and I blame you for talking me into this brand, its all your fault.............

When I was growing up in a small town in Co. there was a molybdenum mine about 60 miles North of my home town and a lot of the men in the area worked there. When I turned 19 I went to work there and one of the first things I was told by the older hands was to never wash your "diggers" , work clothes, in your home washing machine because you could never use it for good clothes again. There was one laundromat in town and they had a big sign on the door "NO MINE CLOTHES" and they had an attendant there to watch . A lot of the guys had a separate washing machine for their diggers and hung them out to dry. Some others only used old clothes and wore them until they couldn't stand them and threw them out and went to the thrift store to buy more if they didn't have any more old clothes at home.

There were lots of stories of wives trying to wash the diggers in the home laundry and having to buy a new washer after staining good clothes. At least that would give them a separate machine for the diggers.

This experience gave me a lot of respect for the moly greases and a great sense of caution when using it.

A cheap grease job never excited me I guess. Dad never talked about grease but it always black Chevron from Standard Oil when I was a kid filling up the grease gun out of a 5 gallon bucket to grease the pull type AC-72 combine which had 72K grease fittings. Filling the gun on a 20F degree morning was not fun because it did not suck out easy. Dad did get a cartridge grease gun with a rubber hose and we used both fill methods until the 5 gallon pail was used.

Not well. Or at least unknown. Data sheet is garbage. no water washout, no load test, no oil separation. I find when they don't say, it's not because their numbers are too good to be true...

Probably a little better than Lucas Red and Tacky, which I consider pricey for what it is. But at least they provide a complete datasheet...

Not in the same class. If I HAD to buy it, I would not pay more than $6 can.

Mystik JT-6 red high temp is a much better grease in that price range, at least according to their (complete) datasheet.

Since I just have a single grease gun at home (away from the farm shop) I'm trying to find recommendations on the best all-around grease (type/brand) that I can put to just about anything without too much fear of issues.

Obviously it will be a bit of a compromise, but I don't plan on buying a second grease gun, and swapping tubes is not an effective solution, or one I think I'd even do.

At home, the main consumers of grease are my little Ford 1210 with a FEL and a few attachments that take grease, and my Kubota F2100 mower. Other than that, it's ATVs and snowmobiles, but the snowmobile don't have many zerks on them nowadays. I bought a tube of low-temp Mystic grease years ago, and predictably never used it, as again, swapping tubes isn't a real option.

I have can of aviation moly (was used to grease sliding parts on a 25mm chain gun) that I slather on the odd part that it seems appropriate (i.e. sliding parts) or in the place of anti-sieze when I don't have any on hand.

If I put only one type in my gun, what should it be?

I like it , Any grease is better than none.....

THAT is the KEY point!
Regularly scheduled greasing is FAR more important than any particular brand of grease.

It's actually not horrible. A basic GP grease, but you can definitely pay more for less. As long as you don't mind greasing religiously, it should work OK. The price is hard to beat.
