Every bad snow year i end up having to use my blower to widen neighbors driveways because of the mounds caused by plowing. Plows Work ok on light years, but not on heavy years. I only use my plow for the initial snows, before the ground freezes up and i know its here to stay fir the season. Then i hook up the blower. I simply like blowing it 40 feet away snd not having to deal with it later.

Any idea what an average winter’s snowfall total is for you?

Our residence has a U shape drive that痴 about 200 across with parking areas in front of the garage and barn. The house sits between them at the bottom of the U on nearly the highest point of the property. I take advantage of the downhill grades and utilize the areas next to both parking areas as snow dumps. I also push back the banks at the end of both drives generously enough that I don稚 have to move the same snow twice. Most winters we only get between 60?100 of snow, but the stuff can stick around for awhile some years.

One of the reasons I prefer a blade to a blower is that my house is open to the west and prevailing winds will invariably be pushing the snow plume towards the buildings or part of the driveway that I致e already done. Plus i do enjoy making big piles of snow. Sometimes I値l plow one up at the edge of the hill in our backyard just to enhance our sled run for the kids. I guess I知 just a plow guy.

Your boss setup looks pretty sweet. I gotta admit I知 a little scared of Polaris durability though. I致e never personally owned a Polaris product. But I just don稚 hear their owners raving about durability. They look nice. The Sportsman X2 and the new Ranger 1000 both look real interesting to me. But I still haven稚 seen that good long-term feedback from Polaris owners to make me feel comfortable buying one for a challenging application like plowing snow.

We get 3 times more snow than you folks. Hopefully in my post I was supporting the use of the snowplows, not necessarily Polaris. I don't live and breath P products but I do like Can-am's 6x6.

Yeah, you’re posts are great. I have just been re-evaluating the prospect of a snowblower because of some of the other posts on here. And after thinking on it for a few days I really think I am going for a V- blade setup on whatever I end up with.

I put the Polaris thoughts out there because I have looked at them and like a couple of their products. But I genuinely question their longevity if you start trying to use them for more than fun. I can get into a new Ranger 1000 for about 2500 less than the RTV. It’ll have the speed capability I’d like, but one big repair could eat that saving up quickly. So I’m hoping for some experienced owner feedback here.

In my shopping I also came across a Polaris Sportsman 570 X2 that looked like a sweet quad for me. It has a little dump bed that converts to a passenger seat and has a 700 lb. payload rating. Adding the capacity to carry more stuff or a passenger could eliminate some of my need to go bigger to a sideXside. So I’m still really looking for more feedback to dial in on what that V- plow will hook to.

In a perfect world my budget and storage space would have let me keep my previous quad and added a SxS, but I really only have space and budget for one.

That's real encouraging to hear. I like your setup. Are those extra light's part of the boss plow package? or something you added?

Those are the optional Boss lights...they were spendy but work great.

Snowblowers only work well until you get to a certain height then they lack the ability to clear the banks and the snow all just falls back in your driveway.....there's no perfect solution if you live in a big snow area.....I've always had better luck pushing snow way back understanding that eventually I was going to get backed in some and my cleared area would shrink.

At my camp I have a 13hp Honda Track snowblower and even with the chute "extension" for height toward the end of winter I'm not clearing the bank.

I guess it all depends on how much snow were talking about . A few seasons ago wr got 130” of snow, had no issues. But then again im not talking about any lake effect mess. Those guys get it real bad. I have personally never ranout of room to blow snow, and it has never fallen back Onto road. Also, by blowing it 50’ i get less wind blowback onto paths. I can blow it in direction of wind, and dont see the wind pushing it back onto paths like i do when using plow.

We are quite happy with the Boss 6x6 and since its a working machine, has something the in box nearly all of the time. It also pushes snow quite well. Let us know what you end up with.

Thanks timswi. I figured the RTVs would be the best UTV for the job. Do you have a hand throttle in your RTV? I've seen it on some and was curious about it. Knowing that HSTs perform better with is higher engine speed, I figured that a hand throttle would be a useful option to get things moving in heavy snow. The dealer I talked with last week seemed puzzled by my questions about it. Speed is the only concern I have about the RTV. I'd like to be able to at least stay within earshot of my kids on the dirt bikes.

I have a throttle pull that I use for warm-ups but never saw a need to up the RPM's as it does fine for me as it is.

HST transmission's are not the "cure-all" for UTV's and I personally wouldn't buy one.
