Inconsiderate drivers and tractor operators, bad mix...

My JD 6200 has some really, really stupid scheme where the four ways are automatically on with some variation of the driving lights. Often I want that particular light with no four ways or the other way around.

I'm the op and that is exactly what happened. The clown was coming down the dirt road at warp factor one. When I swung into the road, he was (in my estimate) fat enough away from me to be able to control his vehicle). Pretty hard to estimate speed at a distance. By the time I got out in the road, he was on me and sliding all 4 wheels. He slid by me on the loose dirt, flipped me off and hammered down again.

Speed limit on any unmarked road in Michigan is 55 which, IMO is way too fast and this guy must have been doing 80.

The vehicle was in my view as I pulled out but was a long ways off, far enough that I felt I had the room to get out in the road without incident. There was no incident but it was close and I didn't have anything on the back, just the tractor.

Tractor in my avitar is the tractor I was driving.

Good explanation Daryl. You cleared it up. You pulled out in front of an auto. So, if you had waited 5 seconds the auto would have been past you.

This conclusion of mine does not excuse the Auto from speeding. And it doesn't excuse you for pulling out in front of an oncoming Auto that you saw. Sorry.

Oh I wasn't aware of that feature. It does make sense.

Over here, we have Brake lights, marker lights, turn signals, high and low beams. It's also requires the SMV sign and a beacon. The tractors do have a license plate, insurance and a title.

While there are still some idiots, the majority of the drivers will actually respect the tractors and machinery in general.

Europe is far, far, far above us in regards to tractors sharing the roadways with Autos. FAR ABOVE. :thumbsup:

Oh and we also have to have drivers license and recently we also need a 50 hour training program called: "Driving and operating a tractor safely". (Yes it does translate exactly like that from Portuguese)

You basically have a couple theoretical lessons, then you go to a closed course where you hook/unhook an implement and a trailer safely, you then drive on a specific route with a couple reversing maneuvers.

Funny. I just got (back) a little farm wagon, maybe seven feet long. My Lady friend was pulling it with the Mule on the weekend, and stopped in position to back it into a parking place. I just stopped what I was doing, and watched smiling!

Never mind, I couldn't do it either. Not even observing the angle of the front wagon wheels.

Kinda like watchin a newby trying to backup a military Caterpillar 830M or Clark 290M pan (scraper). Everything twists or bends and never in the direction you want.

But don't let all those requirements give the wrong impression. In my country in particular, we have deaths from tractor accidents almost every day. Not really road accidents but more field accidents. 60% are cause by stubborn operators that refuse to lift the ROPS and use a seat belt, even though they are working on hills, uneven terrain, etc. The 40% are older tractors that didn't have ROPS to begin with. ROPS are mandatory for tractors from 1992 and on.

It's very sad to see so many accidents and lives lost. From early 20's to high 80 and 90s.

We're expecting some serious laws on tractors some day in the future. Either yearly inspections (as been discussed already) or something that will almost lock the ROPS in place.

I'm not sure I would consider that to be above us,
seems to me like just more unfunded mandates from the government to follow to aid in their coffers.

Nothing like having Government employees showing up (in company cars with company gas) and pension plans and CPI indexed pay, telling you what to do do, or worse fining you, while you anticipate possible bankrupcy!
