When you're doing a shed roof attached to a house that is 4x4s, 2x8s and 2x6s with OSB on top, then metal roof, the lumber is most of the cost. It would double the project cost at what I quoted above.

If you don't include those numbers in your comments, they have no weight.

If it's a $500 project that went to $1,000. Not bad. If it's a $5,000 project that went to $10,000 that's bad. If it's a $100,000 project that went to $200,000 that's a stopper.

It's a $100 project that went to $200, and yeah with everything else I'm doing, this optional project will wait until prices fall or I can get better prices from the rough saw guy down the road.

Then I would say the project isn't very important to you and the payback of doing it is minimal at best.

Went to Lowe's to get some PT 4x4 to replace some fence posts snapped in the last storm that rolled thru.
nope didn't have any, just a couple that looked like banana wood.
Went to a local fence company on Sunday and picked thru their rip out piles headed for the dump
Got two loads and just had to remove some nails and screws.
First load of 22 looked great just some dirt on bottom.
Second load of 32 had a few (5) with some termite damage( useful for under wood skids)
So total of 54 treated 4x4s free with just a little work. New ones are around $18.00 each
15 of the ones I picked up still had barcode stickers on em

Good on you. Lots of places locally sell used lumber. Real reasonable and well seasoned.

Around here most new fencing is plastic replacing wood. All wood goes to the dumps. There were 5 truckloads of removed fencing and posts that were placed in dumpsters the day after my scrounge. I also got some metal top rail that was being tossed.
Raw materials for me!:)

I needed a board for my barn project so I went to Home Depot. Their lumber department looked like the paper products aisle in the supermarket last March, completely picked clean. Lowes was the same. So now I have to see what I can scrounge up.

Both did have a good supply of sheet goods though.

That's a great and lucky find. They wouldn't last long in most other areas of the country.
