Who do you think are better stewards of the land/timber, loggers or a bunch of greenies? IMG_1633.jpg

The top is what we would normally do in a Douglas fir thinning the bottom picture is of the greenie style thinning on public ground.

Didn't need much time, it's here this morning. Haven't been outside yet but hope it's not too bad or the boss won't let me out of the house. I might be allowed to work on building my shop if I wear a mask.

It壇 help if they didn稚 sue to lock up the timber sales and salvage of the burnt timber. Take the Eagle Creek fire in the Columbia River gorge it has been locked up for salvage logging instead of removing the problem it just adds to it. To the roads we put them in to log an area and depending on who youæ±*e working for youæ±*e told to remove the roads or access when done or possibly remove the existing roads period.

Those roads still need to be maintained and they are a problem with erosion and silt washing into the streams where the salmon spawn. Add to it, the people going up into those areas trashing things out because of easy access, cause you know they wouldn't be up there if they had to walk. Back when i was a youngster, they used to leave most of the roads alone, and people weren't using them for dump sites.

I saw logging companies decimate western MA. The loggers themselves (our neighbors) thought the timber companies would replant. They did, pine. No more hardwoods that that area was famous for.
Now all the lumberjacks work other jobs and the large timber companies walked away. Don't think the "greenies" are right either. Forest needs to be trimmed or burned properly and the forest service is trying to really figure this out, but keeps getting pushed back by developers who want to build in the forest.

Not going to be fixed any time soon. And we get most of our hard wood from Asia now. Big companies do as they want, everyone gets hurt but their execs.

I waited for the Boss to leave to pick up some groceries, put a mask on and did some work on my blade. Just got a leveling kit and wanted to make sure everything lined up. Gotta say, after all the huffing and puffing i did outside, my lungs weren't too happy with me. I probably should have used the N95 instead of cloth mask.

It has thinned out considerably but you can still see it. Linging between the pine stands. Doesn't smell as bad either. Our winds have been coming out the NE and are cold.

Hazy skies over Wisconsin this morning due to wildfire smoke from the western U.S.
