West Coast Smoke, UGH!

Up to state government, not Federal and interestingly, the states that burn up regularly are governed by snowflakes / greenies.

Proper forest management eliminates and greatly reduces fire risk and if a fire does occur it's much more easily controlled with the forest floor isn't loaded with brush and dead wood.

Cannot have it both ways despite what the tree huggers/greenies/snowflakes think.

Have you ever been to the PNW? It’s almost impossible to keep the brush down here, we can thin and within a year you can’t tell we’ve been there. There’s private, State, and Federal ground out here all managed differently the two government grounds aren’t managed like they should be at all.

I have to mow the brush - Buck brush - three time a year just to keep it down( less that 3" tall ). This would be an impossible job, considering all the State & Federal lands out here. Let alone privately owned open range land.

Forest floor? Much of what is burning is more like forest walls.

Here is a cross section of much of the land that is burning.

After the terrible fires last year in Northern Ca. I read an article that said one of the counties up there was going to use herds of goats to work on the undergrowth but haven't heard anything since as to how it worked or even if it happened. I know that goats have been used in the past with good results but you have to control them and keep them away from private property as they will eat most any vegetation.

I could use a couple goats to eat up my blackberry bushes that are out of control!

Me too... temporary rental. :D. Problem is if I tied them up they would be easy prey for coyotes I would bet. Not to mention how many times I would have to untangle their leashes.

It is not just forest management, it is the roads that are put in so we can log/replant and take care of the forest. Then when there is a fire, crews can actually get into the area and deal with it when it is small.

But nobody wants to pay for that so here we are. Not to mention the century long effort to suppress each and every fire, that's helped pile up the fuel. Started a 100 years ago so you can't really blame it on all the tree huggers/greenies/snowflakes and other nouns that 5030 could come up with.
