So..... Jstpssng. Your saying you like the way the vinyl covers burn the back of your legs on hot days.

In really hot weather when you jumped in without a t-shirt the double-burn was even better. Ah, the good old days. :D
Now I have cloth seats and AC, just a sign that we aren't as tough as we used to be.

So far, I'm extremely happy with my Hemi 6.4 / ZF 8 speed Ram 2500HD Bighorn level 2 with LED light package, cold weather group, fifth wheel towing package and sunroof. It's been 10 months, it was back at the dealer once (last week) for a water leak, the sunroof has been redesigned and is getting replaced.

It's a fabulous truck, $59K sticker and negotiated to $51K before tax/title. But it's my wife and my favored vehicle to go out in. It's a sexy beast if you ask me!

What is your towing capacity with gas 2500?

And (I know, stupid question, it's a yuge truck, nobody gets them for fuel economy, bla bla) what kind of gas mileage do you get?

Go back 2 posts to post #110 and you'll see that I show payload sticker, axle sticker and also show the VIN specific towing limits.

Fuel economy is dependent on what I have behind me. If you are asking about while pulling my 13K LB 5th wheel camper, 7-ish. Pulling my 16' utlility with my diesel mule, 10-11, empty and driving like an old lady.... 14-15.

That's about what I get with my company 1500 Sierra.

I saw your screenshot of towing capacity, and the picture was of a single cab 2wd truck of a different trim level. I didn't realize it was a vin-specific lookup. Maybe actually reading words would have given me a clue. Thanks for the info!

I don't know about a source for repair frequency on non-powertrain parts other than word of mouth, car forums. I can tell you that GM power windows have long been basically a consumable. However, in my 10 y/o yukon I'm happy to report all the original power windows still work. Here are the electro-gadgets that have broken on my yukon:

Both power folding/defrosting mirrors (folding motor AND defrost element, both sides) - I haven't bothered to fix them.

Passenger side power seat switch (cheap & easy fix).

Gas tank vent solenoid (twice)

Throttle Position sensor

Wheel speed sensor
it is interesting that there is no good source to track failures on non power train parts. The above failures in 10 years is not bad, but you are in Texas where there is no salt and snow. The fact that the oems are willing to warranty bumper to bumper out to 36/36 is a good sign.

On the heavy truck side they pretty much have to have a spare truck, cause one is always in for repair for something electrical one way or the other. The electrical repair issues are pretty equal a crossed the board. However, some manufacturers are easier to repair, because information parts is more readily available. Hence less down time.

On the light light duty truck side i wonder if the same is true?

There are going to be variable, one being how good your local dealer is? I get it, I just don't care to have to buy two new trucks or have to keep the old one running cause I will need to use that one.

Having owned a bunch of Police Cars a long time ago and been keenly interestd in them, I can tell you the terrible moisture that gets trapped in the heavy insulation under the rubber. Maybe good for clean up, but bad for the floor underneith. There are too many places where water can find its way underneith. Fleets don't keep their vehicles long enough to care what's going on under the rubber mats..

I have a 93 F150 with a rubber mat. I bought the truck new and moister under the mat has not been a problem.

Well - I'll be the first to admit - I got the Taco Wagon TOTALLY for fun. Sure didn't get it to pull or haul and mileage - ha, ha. After 15K miles - the average is 16.7 mpg. And with the 6.4L engine - I run 89 octane or better.

It's my JOY TOY and boy, do I ever have fun. I've reached that point in my life and I deserve it.

Riddle me this: why have some great features shriveled up and died? My 93 Silverado had a detachable work light under the hood with a 6ft retractable cord. My 2005 Sierra had a fixed work light under the hood. My 2010 yukon has NO light. True the trucks last longer now, but are the designers so arrogant as to think they're so reliable that nobody will ever need a light under the hood?
