Building an 8遅16 gooseneck dump trailer

Just spare tire and wheel. I need to see if a tarp is standard.
Asked for hydraulic jacks as an option.

Beginning to wonder what it will weigh empty?
If the Diamond C is 20k GVWR but weighs 8k since its overbuilt, Im spending a lot of extra money for only a little more capacity than a Sure Trac 16k.

It is really not that overbuilt, 10 gauge floor and sides, 8" x 15lb main frame and only 18" sides. I doubt it is over 5k lbs, maybe 5500. My Lamar with 7 gauge floor, 10 gauge sides (3 ft.), 8" x 15lb frame and 8k axles is 6Klbs. My PJ with 7 gauge floor and sides (3 ft.), 10" x 19lb frame and 10k axles is 7k lbs.

So it looks like I can expect a payload of 7 tons. Thats more like what Im looking for. Gotta get the final price and then its decision time.
Unless another option becomes available.

PJ will not upgrade their deck over trailer with 10k axles, only their low profile.

Well a super single typically is rated for approximately what a pair of duals would carry. Surely more than 4800lbs and it ain’t gonna be a 215.....

I don’t expect tire ratings to limit your GVW.

That's the point I am trying to make, The Diamond C uses the smaller 215/75x17.5, not the 235/75x17.5 Super Single. Read the fine print in your own link, it shows the 215. Tires are AWAYS part of the GVW.

One reason I like 215 17.5s is because then I have 2 trailers with same tires.
But Id rather have the 235s on the Diamond C if its a single.

Maybe you can help me find where it says the axles have single tires. Or dual. It does not seem to be specified.
Tires ARE always part of the GVW. What I should have said was I do not expect the OEM supplied tire rating to limit the GVW in this instance. Tire load range is also not specified. 215s can be rated over 6K each.
But reality can fall short of expectations.

So get this....
I’m hauling a load of hay south on Route 1 at about 7AM.
Coming at me in the northbound lanes is a 8x16’ deck over with fold down sides, BUT it had 10k axles with DUAL tires!
I’m so angry I didn’t get the name of the trailer :fiery:

Are you sure it had fold down sides? You have a good eye if you can tell it is 16'.

If you go to your Diamond C link, at the top of the page is has a list of styles, highlight them and it will give the models. They will show single or dual. In general a 10-12k dually axle will have 16" tires as standard, with some manufactures offering a 17.5 upgrade. At 16k plus the 17.5 becomes standard.

I have not seen a 215, over 16 ply or over 4800 lb rated. Not saying there not out there but I have not seen them. The 235 is 18 ply and 6k rated, again that is the only rating I have seen.

The dual wheels on the Big Tex 102” trailer at work (10K axles) are tucked several inches inboard of the side rails. I suspect hinged sides on a 96 inch trailer might fold down close to or touching dual tires. I cannot say with certainty, but it would not surprise me a bit.

Load range J is over 6K.
