Building an 8遅16 gooseneck dump trailer

I guess I will have to take some more pictures, I will use my Lamar with spring/equalizer axles. You guys just don't get it. I can bottom an axle just by driving into a McDonalds parking lot. Loaded I only have two inches of clearance between the axle u-bolts and frame. Did you not look at the picture of my frame I posted? Look at your own trailers, you will see contact marks. When that happens what do you think is happening? The axle stops and unloads the other one. At least with torsion when the rubber stops giving and the axle movement stops it is not a slam stop like springs do.

I don’t think my trailer bottoms out. This was probably over the axel weight and it didn’t bottom out.

I’m glad you are happy with your trailer. The underside of the decks above the two tandem axle equalized spring suspension trailers at my workplace aren’t scuffed up by the tires and the axle tubes do not beat against the frame. Your photo clearly shows why I will never be a fan of multiple torsion axles on a trailer. More photos will not change that.
We do not have to agree and clearly we do not. I merely took the opportunity to use your pic to emphasize my point, thanks for posting it.

The picture I was talking about is this one of my Lamar spring trailer. Sorry, my bad, I posted it on another thread not this one. See what happens when ya get old:) But note the frame damage. And yes, I do like my torsion and yes you don't have to, Lol

I do understand not all spring trailers are the same, longer or shorter hangers, frame type, axle size, u-bolt size and spring arch all play a part. Maybe my Lamar is just a poor example. Thanks for the comments.

ok so I got some possibly decent news. Spoke with a different Diamond C dealer today. Hes putting a quote together for me on a deck over 16x8 dump with 2) 10k axles and an option for hydraulic jacks. Verbal quote was MUCH lower than other dealer. Like I think you made a mistake lower. Will advise when I get quote

Might be torsion axles though .....I asked what brand axles and he said Diamond C never lube axles. :confused3:

Nice news, I am getting tired, Lol Not really, excellent thread. Yup, if they ain't Dexter they are kinda quiet. Diamond C uses Lippert, I think they are a fine axle. Not sure about some of their RV frames.

If Diamond C is the best trailer, youd think they would use Dexter or Rockwell axles.

Honestly from what I've seen lately, the Lippert axles are on the same level with Dexter, the dump you're looking at should have oil-bath hubs and torsion suspension.

I'm not a huge fan of torsion on the 7k dexter axles I've dealt with, but the 10k might be a different animal, and they at least have an 11year warranty.
