Strange things your pets do...

I've always been a cat person, never had much use for dogs. About 30 years ago I was out for a walk...about 3/4 of a mile from home I saw a white cat sitting on the hood of a truck in someone's driveway. I said something to the effect of "hey, white cat". Well, that cat jumped down off the truck and came running towards me as fast as its legs could carry it. It started rubbing me, meowing. purring up a storm. It acted like it wanted to be picked up, but when I did it seemed like it was so excited to see me it couldn't lay still. After about 5 min of this I started walking home. Wouldn't you know it, but the cat followed me all the way, I opened the front door and it walked right in like it belonged there. Had another cat at the time, it took about a week for this white one to chase the other one away (no big loss...the other cat was kind of nasty, just didn't have the heart to get rid of it). Nicest, most intelligent cat I ever had...had it almost 18 years before I had to have it put down. Had one green eye, the other one was blue.

My Springer Spaniel has to be inside the barn with me when I close the big sliding doors. As soon as she hears me start to close them, she runs at full speed just be be there when I close them. I can't recall ever closing the doors without her being with me.

I was a dog person until my wife converted me 48 years ago. (I still like all animals) But we have had some amazing cats over the years. A few years ago we had a large 20# black cat who talked. People thought we were crazy until they heard him. Always "hello" every time we saw him. Then me he'd say "I want". I'd say what do you want? "Momma" (my wife)...or me it was "Da-doo".
People would turn pale when he said things!
A gray striped tom cat "Reggie" a great mouser. If we played ping pong he'd jump on the table, go to the net and hit ball back to you, paw of course. The neighbor's liked him so well they put in a pet door so he could go in their house. No matter what you were doing he was there. A running drag car he would sit in seat, paws on steering wheel.
When he passed at 20 several of our neighbors actually cried.

We had a cat that would tap people on the elbow or wrist to get their attention. It got to be so funny, I'd ignore him when I could tell he wanted something, just so he'd tap me and give me that look when we made eye contact. He was a funny little fellow.

I am amazed at how verbal/vocal our dog can get when she knows we're eating something good that she can't have, yet she never did figure out how to communicate too well when it's time to go outside. She sort of just shows up and looks around hoping to catch someone's attention.

We used to have a Springer Spaniel that was very laid back and not at all excitable. But if you didn't pay attention to him he would try to whiz on your leg---and often did. We had to warn visitors.

Our Chinese Crested (Socrates, Soc for short) jumps up and taps on my arm when he needs to go out, the other trick is a real crowd stopper, puts his ear on the carpet and spins around, his father did it too, being hairless it is a grotesque performance.
This pic is his father who is no longer with us.

Oh we got some weird ones! Our little one, Abby (we think she's a tibetan terrier x chinese crested powder puff), she absolutely refuses to eat from a bowl or even a shallow dish. She will only accept food if it's fed to her by hand, or if it's on the floor. Another thing she'll do, if the water bowl is empty, she does this crazy dance on the rug until I refill it, kind of like she's scratching the rug with her back paws, both at the same time.

Our maremma, Sophie, I let her out in the front yard to do her biz, she'll do it there, and then walk all the way around the house to the back to be let in by the patio door. She's real stubborn about it, she won't listen if I call her while she's walking back there, she'll just keep on walking to the back lol.

Ragnar our cat, he'll be out for hours, then demand to come in. We clean him with wipes when he comes in, clean his paws, his body...the whole bit. He totally submits to it no problem, then begs to go outside again lol.

I've seen cats whupping up on dogs but the dog usually instigated the fight and cat was defending it's self. Only once obsurved a cat ambush a dog several times their own size. Our lab mix and momma cat were inseperable pals. As I sat injoying the stars and night air,the cat lay on top of a window air conditioner. A dog from down the road came into my yard and began following and sniffing my dog. The cat leaped from her perch landing on the dogs shoulders with fangs and claws bared. Suprised dog disappeared into the dark yelping with the howling cat on his back and my barking dog pulling up the rear.

Whenever my cat (Penelope) is outside I leave the back door blocked open. When she comes back in she will always meow to let me know that she's 'in' and I can now shut the door.
