B65 backhoe issues on 2020 models?

Here is north of Buffalo, NY. Bought my MF 40 like away in a small town called Batavia half way between Buffalo and Rochester.

I just found a GC1710 with 170 hours for sale for $13k and only 20 miles from me. Private owner but looks to be in excellent shape. That saves me $6,500 plus tax versus a new gc1725mb. I might have to go check it out.

Yeh, I'd say you should go take a gander, definitely. I was in the same boat as you just last year, initially went to a massey dealer, took a look at their gc (the new model, w/o the backhoe...that's all they had on the lot). Tractor with loader only, just shy of $13k + tax.

A month later, private sale, I picked up a gc1710 with the backhoe, a mere 60 hrs on it, complete with the drive-over 60" mower, a dyi backhoe dolly (full disclosure, it needs design improvement), a set of bolt-on forks, and a 3ph drawbar...$17k. So, I think I did quite ok.

But then, let's dive into this some more. It already went through the 50 hr service at the dealership, every bolt that got loose and every other quirk that develops in a new machine was remedied, and quite likely any big issue would have already presented itself. Basically, this machine was nicely broken in for me, to just enjoy and keep up routine maintenance on. So long as it's a low hr machine and was obviously cared for, I think it's a win to buy a gently used tractor...especially in regards to these latest GC models with some of their reported problems.

Yeah that sounds like you found a great deal!! If I found one like that I would jump on it . Really the only thing that would hold me up from buying the used one is not having any extra attachments. Meaning I have to go pay cash for them which is one thing I am trying to avoid right now, lol. New one I can get it all thrown in on one monthly payment but I am almost ready to buy used as it saves so much money and I can always add an attachment one at a time down the road. I was wanting a grapple (obviously need third function of some kind), box blade, forks, mmm or rear mower, tiller, and some kind of blade front or rear for snow. This all adds up to a pretty penny if I buy it all new.

Hey Raines, everybody got different needs, but if the money is tight, you may do ok with cheaper options. For instance, I was originally wanting a grapple, but I end up doing ok enough with forks, at least ok enough to not being able to justify the cost of a grapple with also having to install a diverter valve. And I'll also say that if I had a set of ssqi forks, I'd be using them a hella lot more, coz bolt-on forks are a pain in the arse. I think that's in the future for me.

A tiller, yeh that's nice, but depends on what you're doing there, you could do ok with just a ratchet rake. I use the crap outta mine, not just for tearing brush but also leveling and prepping for grass. I do some of that here (skip to the 7:00 mark):

I'm planning on fabbing up a snow blade this year out of my old craftsman snow/dozer blade, but so far I use a snow edge on my bucket, it works really good.

Here's the snow edge, it's made by the same guys who make the ratchet rake. Ratchet rake and snow edge are both around $300 plus shipping.

Gene, thank you for the advice. I didn't know those tools existed. That's look to be perfect for what I need. I was going to use the tiller for garden plots for the wife. After watching your video I think a box blade and that rake would do just fine. And that snow blade attachment looks to work just fine too.
I have a lot of projects in the future as my house sits on a null in an old corn field I bought with a creek and tree line that wraps around it. Plenty of landscaping ideas, I have drainage issue to deal with, would like to clear out some of my creek/tree line to make it more accessible, and I want to run water and power to back of property and put in a small septic to make a camping spot for my rv and have a place to dump the tanks when need be. My brother owns 100 acres and my dad owns 30 acres and I know they both need some help trying to maintain their properties as well.
Anyways, after I found that used gc1710 I really started thinking about it but now that I know there is alternatives to some of these implements and attachments I am definitely more persuaded to go buy it now. I really like those little massey's, lol. Thanks again.

Oh well good, I know it has the dl95 loader and the CB65 bh on it, so that's a good thing. I am going to stop by this week and take a look at it.
