When I cook on the grill, it's either perfect or it's ashes. Never just so-so. :laughing:

It's been a very strange year.
There are lots of grapes near my orchard. I think if they weren't picked before this smoke, and ash raining down, the grapes are now unmarketable.

We are lucky, in addition to the ranch (orchard), our primary home is 100 miles east of there. After dinner last night we retreated to home to get away from the choking bad air. It's nice here at home today. I particularly worry about the farm workers in the vineyards over there, they work regardless.

My philosophy. If you cannot afford to replace an item today, it should be insured.

To keep it affordable I now have a 7500 deductible.

Our home is $2500 deductible. We've never used it (knock on wood).

That's the way to keep car insurance cost down, too. You need the insurance for disaster protection, not to repaint a door ding.

Once our cars get down to about $10-12K in value, I cancel full coverage and only carry liability.

So if you total it the next day, didn't you buy insurance all that time for nothing? I guess if you can replace it at that time with minimal financial burden that's a good plan.

I just keep the deductible real high in the first place.
