^^ I just got a notice that the L store charged my card for the transfer switch. They said that wouldn't happen until shipment, but I don't have a shipped notice yet. You said G was backed up on everything. Do you know if they're shipping transfer switches?

   / Generator Selection? #162
That i di not know. Only info they post about backlog is on generators. I never get charged until shipment.

From the other thread:
Agree there. Anyone can install generators.... You have to be licensed electrician to hook up electrical end, and licensed gas guy to hook up the fuel side. There is no training required to install the units, but generac does offer it at a cost. In order to get free warranty work done, it HAS to be thru certified Generac repair facility.

I'll be doing all the physical placement and initial connections, no requirements for electric or gas connections here, homeowner can do everything. I'll have a local Generac outfit double check my work and do the initial start up, so hopefully no warranty issues. LP company will leak test and do whatever else they need to after I get the tank moved.

In the process of burying the gas line now. I'll post pictures of how I plan to make that connection when I get further along.

One question. If I get the multi-conductor Generac cable for the genset to transfer switch, can that be exposed, or does it need to be in Sealtight?

   / Generator Selection? #164
The cable is sunlight resistant, but the inspectors generally require it be in sealtight flex as it enters generator. This gives ir some measure of protection against damage. And seriously, sealtight is cheap, as i use the plastic carlon type.

Yeah, I know and I have some, but maybe not the right size. Fittings aren't quite so 'cheap' though.

1-1/4 plastic sealtight straight fitting is about $5. You need 2.

Wont break the bank.

Clarification ....

Is there a gas pressure test port in the 13 and 16K models? I cannot find a 3/4 FIP-FIP gas vale with one.

I ain't leaving my tractor running for days at a time. That's why they make purpose built standby generators. PTO generator might be fine for powering tools out in the woods for a few hours, but they will not provide the quality of power needed for today's appliances and electronics.

I have a Baumalight QC12 that has better power than what I get from our coop. It's as clean of power as you will find, and at least as good or better than Honda invertor gennys which are the gold standard in clean, stable power.

From Baumalight:

AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATION
Our automatic voltage regulation keeps power stable within 1% plus or minus from 64 down to 56 Hz, allowing for near constant voltage in the case of an unexpected load variation. This protects your generator from harm and provides a superior quality of power regardless of your property's varying power requirements.

I run this on my JD4052R in E-PTO. Very fuel efficient, and on a bad year, I might run this 50-100hrs. Hardly enough to wear out my tractors engine.

Well, it wont work on newer generac systems. The new generacs have encrypted controllers that wont allow 3rd party controls.

I bought my 16kw guardian in 2017 can I get this feature? I see a marker in the front that has a place for a wifi device.

All units have 2 on the demand regulator in the compartment with the battery. The upper port is unregulated, the lower is only live when unit running.

Does your controller in the generator say evolution 1.0 or evolution 2.0.

Any update on shipping backlogs?

Blue Box Store order of #RXSW100A3 is estimated to ship today, but they can't ship what they haven't received. Unless they're having G ship direct.

I've been running a PTO 25 KW for 20 years or more during outages and running my entire house as if the power was still on. I have no idea where you got this misinformation from.

i have no idea if home depot stores any generac product. But 100 amp stuff is easier to get than 200 amp right now

I'm always amazed how I read right here on this very site, how these guys brag that their brand tractors will easily run 10,000 plus hours, with only oil changes! Then they are scared to death to run a PTO generator 50, 100 or even 200 hours a YEAR, to make power!

Like you, I have a pto generator and it works "perfectly" to power my whole house!

Yep, and my tractor is stingy on fuel, has tons of power and will sit and run at 1715 RPM as long as you keep fuel in it. And it has lights. I built my trailer for the gen and put 2 400 watt MH lights on it. They keep some additional load on it all the time.

I can tell you this, my mom and dad had a Generac standby that I installed with a ATS. They have passed away now but when they were in that house either a service tech or I worked on that thing all the time. I finally bought one on an auction that was a telephone company surplus with 150 hours on it for $1000. I never got to change it out and sold it to the guy that bought the house. I don't have those issues with mine.

Anyone have a good recommendation for treating diesel fuel as far as a "biocide" or whatever it's called to prevent the algae growth. I just got a new diesel generator with a 200 gallon tank for a base, I'd like to keep it filled (just in case) but that might be enough for quite a long outage at 20kw. And it won't be pulling 20kw too often or at all.
Any suggestions for an additive or possibly only filling partially?

It's going to live in this little building when I finish it.

Sawyer, you know we differ on that. Not so much the hours, I couldn't sleep knowing my tractor was running, and as for my old JD 770, full bore, throttle pulled right back, to run my old Onan 15K pto set, perfectly. Fan belt breaks, rad springs a leak or oil pump quits and it's a fifteen grand bill! Maybe not that high, or maybe higher depending on tractor.

Only filling a tank partially is far worse for condensation. And besides, I like having every possible tank always filled anyway.

I made my fuel tank high for this project to limit the exposure area, fuel to air.DSC00062.JPG

Nice rig! I use the JD stuff but any parts house should have Seafoam or several like it.
