Tractor
2017 Mahindra 5555, John Blue G-1000, Massey Ferguson 98, John Deere GP
Sold my John Deere 2005 HST 4320 last fall. Projects I did with my tractor was starting to pile up so I bought another a few days ago. Went with a 2017 Mahindra 5555 synchronized shuttle shift.

There is things I liked more about the JD, there is things I like more about the Mahindra. Overall the Mahindra is a much more capable machine and I’m happy with it so far. Within a hour of unloading the tractor I moved things around inside the barn that I have been wanting for 6 months lol.

I don’t “Need” a 7900lb tractor for my size property. Heck it was kinda hard to justify the cabbed 5300lb JD sometimes. But I really like how stable the Mahindra is, it’s wider and heavier and the tall front wheels glide over holes vs fall in them like the 4320 did so the ride is much smoother even without an air ride seat.

Although loader visibility is a bit worse on the Mahindra, it’s almost twice as capable as the JD was. JD could lift 1750lbs to full height, the 5555 will lift over 3000lbs to full height. Too often did i max out the loader on the 4320, I’ll be surprised if I max the Mahindra loader lol. It should last me a VERY long time. I’ll be able to get a lot more work done with this tractor.

Mowing in tall weeds. Less of a fire hazard.

Thanks!

I also think it’s the same exhaust as is on the cabbed tractors.

Less of a fire hazard and also it gets the exhaust up higher and away from operator, lots of mowing or tillage work and the lower exhaust can fumigate the operator on a open station tractor.

Congratulations on the new ride! Even so, you would have had a hard time dragging me out of a cabbed tractor. The 120+ degree heat indexes down here are brutal. Can't always put-off the work. Short of buying a new tractor, I've been looking for a cab and A/C.

The cab was deff nice but I could take it or leave it. If I HAD to be on one for 8-10 hours a day during all conditions, yes I would want a cab more but I don’t have that issue. If it’s stupid hot outside I’ll just find something else to do in the shade or do that on a cooler day. So loosing the cab has been no big deal.

I clear snow 4-5 times a year, being in a hot cab is super nice BUT again I only clear snow 4-5 times a winter (in the past 5 years). I didn’t clear snow at all last year. Only takes 45 mins to clear all mine and my neighbors snow with a 6ft rear blade.

How did that trade go? Were you able to buy the mahindra for less than you sold the JD for?

Awesome if so!!!

Well I sold the JD about a year ago then bought the Mahindra about a week ago. Yes I did buy it for less than I sold the JD for. And got a 7ft bush hog, 7ft rear blade, pallet forks and a bucket with it. Mahindra is a larger and more capable machine also. I waited till I was 100% debt free before I bought it.

I didn't see it above, but I'm guessing you either got your rear tires "filled" or you will, if you ever try to pick something up with the FEL that approaches the 3000 lb limit...I had my 6000's tires loaded before I took possession of it back in '03.....still going strong. BobG in VA

I have not filled the tires, I might add some wheel weights for ballast depending on how much they cost but for now I’m ok, not lifting anything that heavy. Tractor is 7999lbs as she sits, my JD was 5300lbs and did OK with what I moved but was light on the rear every now and then.

I have a 10ft long 7ft wide rotery cutter or a 550lb Box blade rock hang off the rear if I need ballast for now. More ballast is deff on the list.
