I've learned to let go of the person behind me and concentrate on the situation in front of me. I won't speed up for them. I won't tap my brake lights. If they hit me, it's their fault, their choice.
I get an arcane bit of enjoyment out of a tailgator when they are right on me and I jam on the brakes. Like to watch their eyes get real big as the peal off towards the ditch so they don't hit me.
.................Your honor, I had to apply my brakes very hard to avoid the dog that ran in front of me. I didn't realize Mr. Doe was that close to me and could not keep from hitting me................
Something about 'assured clear distance' that attorneys love.
