Post puller

I have the Landpride STP-25 tree/post puller. I have ripped a ton of trees and posts with it. Wooden posts and t-posts come out real quick. If you need to re-use them you need to take a bit more time. Lost of sumac and some scrubby trees come out pretty easy. The Danuser is heavier and with a smaller tractor (less weight) and a bit less lift capacity I don't know how much you can rip out. My rears get light if I start trying to be a hero and take bigger stuff than I should. Works good to pull and stack stuff without all the getting on/off the tractor.

Thank you jjp and Johnny, the real world feed back is what im looking for. Most of the use I think it would see would be moving cut small trees (4 to 6 inch) that can only be grabbed with the tractor parallel to the length of the trunk. Working in a patch of 12 year old pines that have weed trees fighting for sunlight. Too much on and off to simply use a chain and drag. Also have a pond edge that has overgrown with sweet gum of a similar size that i would love to simply pull out of the ground.

Grabbing cut trees of that size would definitely work, the thing to watch out for would be the load capacity limits (considering the distance in front of the tractor) ....and possibly the tree starting to act like a sail catching wind or mast catching on overhead obstacles.

Personally I try to use the intimidator to pull/remove/move items into a localized pile and then use a more traditional grapple for longer distance movement as the more traditional grapples/grabs keep the load closer to the tractor and more easily permit carrying multiple items for long haul rather than the one or possibly two (if you're good/lucky) with a post/tree puller-style grab/grapple. It's generally not easy (in my experience at least) to grab a pile of stuff with a post-puller as the first item in tends to act as a wedge preventing a good grip on the second/third/etc item.

We have a post / tree puller & it is a very useful tool but as JJP8182 said "within the limits of what my tractor can do". Ours is definitely a light duty one (I purchased it that way purposely for our use) as our tractor is not designed to handle the abuse the heavy duty units could easily cause. I also wanted the lightest weight unit I could find as not to limit the FEL's capacity & for our purpose I didn't need or want a big heavy or expensive unit; for one we would never get our moneys worth our of let say a danuser intimidator which is an great unit but way to much for our machine.

So now that we have one, I wouldn't want to be without one even with our limitations due to the tractor / FEL. You need to work within your tractors limits or you will break something (I don't see posts being an issue... trees = yes). Again ours is light duty & will still crush / cut through stuff & stress the tractor if you are not using common sense; ours weighs only a little over 300lb (which helps with the FEL limits. Oh, & I got a great deal on it new for under $350 at an auction...

I did purchase a Titan 3 Point to Universal Quick Tach Adapter to be able to use the post / tree puller & a couple other attachments on the 3PT, but haven't tried it yet with the puller yet...

Hope you start a thread with your experience with this adaptor. At the right price and at the right quality level, it would be useful for many of us.

Agree. Looking at being able to use my pallet forks on the 3PH to move totes of firewood while having the grapple on the front for handling logs to the processor.

Im thinking more in line with a hydraulic grapple style. Think danser intimidator.

I bought a MTL post/tree puller this spring and it works as good as I hoped it would. I've used it on a Kubota L3600 or a M7050 and pulled a hundred or so assorted wood and tee posts without any trouble.

I'm in the process of removing old rusty woven/barbed wire fences. I just go down the fence pulling up each post with the wire still attached, cutting the wire every hundred feet or so. Then I roll the whole mess up into a roll, then haul each roll to the scrap pile.

Some bigger posts have to be rocked back and forth a little to get them to break loose. The puller also has enough force to crush the posts if you don't watch it. I've also pulled up smaller trees and bushes with it but prefer to just saw them off at the ground so I don't have to fill up the hole where the roots came out. I still have hundreds more posts to pull as I get the time and the weather permits.

Another thing I use it for is to remove smaller trees, as long as they're not too big, growing in the fence or on the opposite side of the fence. I can grab the tree above the fence, saw the tree off below the puller, then move the whole tree away from the fence to the brush pile. I've only used the bigger/ heavier M7060 to remove trees that way. Some were up to 4"-6" in diameter and up to 20' tall. Trees any bigger may be too much to handle safely so I haven't pushed it to find out.

The FEL mounted MTL hydraulic post puller works like a champ. I'm a one man show and it has saved me a lot of time and a ton of labor.

I agree with the comment made above that when using the tree puller, I generally am pulling and stacking the trees for removal with a grapple. One thing to keep in mind is that, even if you knock a lot of dirt out of the root balls if you stack them all the same way, you will have one side that is much heavier than the other. I kind of have it figured out now how big the piles can be for me to move with the grapple and have gone to multiple smaller piles. I also second the comment by houser that pulling around fence line and rows is very easy. Bigger stuff gets rocked back and forth SLOWLY or you'll lift your tractor. Ballast as much as you can. I've also had a bigger piece nearly come back on me as it slipped in the jaws while moving it. It would have stopped after hitting the hood, but the smaller twigs/branches seem like they are right about face level. The STP25 had an option for a push bar that was angled away from me so I opted to install that. Go slow till you learn it and then easy does it.

STP25 on B2650, Brush under 3/4" diameter usually just snaps off due to the clamping pressures. 1" - 2 1/2" can usually be pulled by loader lift alone. 2+ to 4" are pulled by driving forward and pulling. Most trees have roots going sideways and you may need to try pulling from 2 or more directions. The trees that pulled the hardest had roots straight down like a carrot.

Hardest stump ever pulled, Cedar, amazing root system.

I've pulled hundreds of Cedar. I consider them easy to pull.

Ground conditions make a big difference. If you are as dry as I am that would make it pull hard.

Best time of year to pull any tree is when Frost goes out in the spring. Depending on soil moisture you can shake most of the dirt out of the root ball.
