Just curious. Did you say it was the selling dealer?

Big, small, multi location?

I am not that knowledgeable about axle seals, but I remember reading that alot of the axle seal problems with new JD tractors, were related to the dealers preparation of the tractor for delivery to customers. Apparently, many axles have their fluids topped off and even over filled. At the onset of warmer to hot summer weather, the axle fluids expand, and then seeps past the seals. Many dealers were besieged by axle leaks, and the solution was to pull fluid out and restore to proper level. Eventually most seals stopped leaking on their own overtime.

I would have thought, any such cavity has vents to allow for pressure changes. That makes not a lick of sense.

Perplexed here too, as the rear axles are open to the transmission, so proper fluid level in the tranny and the tranny is vented (I'd think).

Not like the front axles that build up heat that causes the fluid to expand and push past the seals..

Operators manual says nothing about maintaining oil level in rear axles, only the front axles.

Anyone have the service tech manual that might include the R&R on the rear axles? Maybe mention of a special jig or tool to service the seals?

By the jdparts, appears to be nothing special, but one never knows.

Back in '76-'87 when I served as a JD dealer service manager I had contact information for the JD area service manager. He made regular visits to dealership to scrap faulty parts removed from tractors/equip under warranty. I'll bet local dealer SM has access to the JD area SM.
