As far as checking bulb filaments for knowing their state at a crash, I think that is more in aviation. Or was.

To say, it can be done, doesn't mean it's standard proceedure. In a big crash on a thruway, the authorites often close it (unnecessarily in my opinion) disrupting many thousands of lives, (and probably raking in overtime) for many, many hours. Any yet I highly doubt they are looking at bulb fimaments. Probably more concerned if there are any apple fritters left.

I could understand checking headlight bulbs, but brake or turn signal bulbs are not on long even when in use so makes me wonder if this process would work for those. Not to mention most lights are LED these days.

That would have no effect here at all. Can't believe how many people back off when I start doing the speed limit when they are tailgating me. Then I speed up again, and many, in no time will be right on my azz again! I thought they got the message, but apparently something else must be going on.

What is going on is a driver that has no clue as to a safe following distance. You see trains of up to 10 cars at 65-70- MPH in a space that should only have 2, the lead and one follower.

Many years ago I once entertained the notion of installing a brake light cutout switch for those pesky tailgaters. What do you mean my brake lights didn't work? Of course they DO!

Oh yeah!
Hate them also and that's when I slow down to a crawl!

Then there's those that tailgate with halogen on high.

Recall 2 yrs ago when we had freezing rain and vehicles were all over the place in ditches.
I had a tailgater so close that I actually could see the color of his eyeballs.

And NO, I don't drive like an old lady.
Generally I simply flow with the traffic.
Naturally it was a Civic.

If it wasn't stupid enough. Anytime I pull a trailer, they get even closer. Most are close enough to see if they are holding a Tim Hortons Coffee. That's usually when the bird flies in front of my truck. lol

I once was stopped at a red light and from behind an ambulance honks, yelps with siren wailing so I do the proper thing but have to run the red light in order to comply.
A LEO was around the corner and I got ticketed for running that red.
Cost me $$'s and demerit points.

Hope you are not in the next ambulance that's behind me.

And, no, I did not contest as as
- law enforcement sticks together
- laws state that it is mandatory to stop at reds, and no exceptions (but tolerated for LEO's and emergency vehicles) (should add bicycles)

I've attended court sessions enough to know the routines.
Judge asks 'did U or did U not?,, I did , but with explanation'.
Judge reply's, 'you admitted guilt in court, your fine is---'
