Ballast Roll over

   / Roll over #51
Back when I was still working in the construction and mining industries cabbed equipment was getting popular and one of the biggest things stressed in the safety meetings was objects not secured in the cab. The most common were the heavy Stanley stainless style thermos bottles, lunch boxes, and less often, fire extinguishers. These items would fly around in the cab and cause serious head injuries.

It makes no difference to me whether he has a canopy or not, I was just trying to understand the logic behind the decision.

I see. Well I think the logic is the canopy knocked the crap out of him and he doesn't like it anymore. Seems like a logical conclusion to me. :confused3:

Unless you don't need it for shade or shelter, I don't understand why you would take off the canopy. It didn't cause the rollover. It almost sounds like you are planning on rolling the tractor again rather than doing what is necessary to not roll the tractor again.

I wasn't planning on rolling it the first time yet here we are...... what kind of dumb ***** intends to roll his tractor the first or second time (or 3rd, 4th ect?)?

Glad you are Ok. I think you will find the tractor much safer after loading the rear tires and If you use a counterweight too, it will feel much more stable.

My wife has heard me preach a thousand times for the need for counter weight. I got lazy and did not pick up the 3 point tiller I have for counter weight. Just needed to quickly push manure up into the pile.... what could go wrong? Well now I need new underwear too!

Try to imagine the scenario as he described it very well in the first post.... The ROPS didn't hit him. The canopy did. Forget all other things. No canopy/no injury.

Your sarcasm is oozing forth.

Exactly on the canopy issue. The ROPS never came close to hitting me. Also I have no cab so I am not going to bump my head in the window. Also I tend to ignore idiots..... but that is a different thread that would probably get locked.

I guess the questions for a lot of us are, "If your ROPS was up, why weren't you wearing your seatbelt while operating the machine?"

And "How is removing the canopy going to make you any safer?"

Yeah I have a nice bruise on my back right at waist line from the canopy. Canopy did not crack so I hate to think what would have happened if I were under it.

My dealer is also a rim guard dealer. They are getting a sale.

When I read your posts, I had chills run down my spine, I was helping a neighbor pull some rolls of fence old rusty that he wanted cleaned up, and the rolls were at the bottom of a hill, I was at the top.

He had hooked a chain up to the rolls and I was backing up, the roll got hooked on a bush, and he signaled for me to raise the loader, I foolishly did and since I was pulling slightly at an angle, I felt my rear end pucker as my left rear tire lifted, fortunately I had my BB on the rear end AND I instantly dropped the loader. The tractor settled back down, but I do not think I was that far off from possibly rolling it

Also I had my tires filled with Rimguard they day I picked it up new

If you do away with the canopy and underwear you should be fine !

Ballast your tractor but remember that this type of roll over can and will happen regardless of ballast. Bucket full and high, wheel runs up on something, bucket gets off center and over it goes. Just don't get too confident just because you have ballast. I have a waist high rule with a loaded bucket.
