I think personal security is one of the most important issues in rural life. What precautions do you take against possible attacks on your farm/property ? Do you have any special methods ?

Personally, I would make it a priority to have some guard dogs, the number depending on the width of the area.

Security? Guard dog's needed per square foot? I'd move to a better location where you can leave your doors unlocked and the keys in the car ignition.

The countryside is changing. There are a lot of young people who have nowhere to live, and are clustering up in vacant houses and sheds. Some of them are OK people, some of them are not. Just because your neighborhood has been peaceful for years doesn't mean it will be this year. Dogs are a definite plus. I have one fair sized ***** that does not like strangers. My wife feels very safe when home alone.

I have also had my mail stolen once, and I suspect a second time. I'm thinking about putting a trail cam aimed at the mailbox, and a video surveillance system and alarm at the shop. Good friends had a cabin in the Coast Range broken into by a couple guys who made themselves at home and had apparently been there at least a week. They lost a gun in that break-in. Lesson learned. If you value your guns, wear 'em.

OP lives in a perpetual combat zone that has been at war for over a thousand years. Real war (in recent years), fighter planes, missiles, rockets, artillery fire, roving bands of heavily armed commados and raiders ......

Dogs aren't going to be an issue.

Amen. I suspect a little paranoia .

When I'm at the farm, I'm armed. Although, that isn't saying much, when I'm out and about I'm armed.

We currently don't live at the farm, dad is thinking about moving back to the farm. The neighbors keep a close eye on the place for us, better than most alarm systems, plus they show up armed to check any issues. I went out there with a co-worker and we took his truck, less than five minutes being there the neighbor came walking up with his shotgun in hand to see what was going on.

Having good neighbors and being a good neighbor is worth the weight in gold.

^^ Neighbor needs to be in jail.

Not like where the OP lives where people get killed for what the wear, or don't wear.
