"Didn't those BroncoII's like to swap ends though. "

Yes I had my 84 Bronco fish tailing big time on a down grade road first thing in the morning going to work in the winter. The storm changed over to snow during the night so it was snow on ice, I could go but when I went to slow down before going down the big part of the hill I almost lost it, how it stayed on the road I'll never know. But I think a Jeep would do the same thing, just because one can go is one thing, slowing down or stopping is another.............

4 years later winter time, the throttle cable was sticking, while working the petal up and down it stayed down and went almost full throttle parked, had to shut down in gear, next day it ran really rough to barley run, called someone I knew familiar with motor problems, he came up and started it then shut it down, broken crank, thank you again FORD.........

That was the little V6 which they put in the Capri. It was a tough engine, I'm surprised that you were able to kill it. :D
I bought an '83 Ranger 2WD when they first came out with it, but it didn't survive the guard rail fence. :( I later bought a very used '85 4x4 fleet vehicle, it was my first 4WD, I only paid $500 for it and I beat the crap out of it, if it wouldn't go the first try it did the second time. It had a broken frame when I sold it, just like every other Ford I owned from that era.

I think it's save to say most vehicle stiles are not coming back and quite sure this like the Jeep FC is another one that bit the dust as soon as it got off the ground. I thought Corvair was a car that Ralf Nader shut down but guess not. The only ones I see liking this are lawn care people.

The practicality of some of these designs is something I wish we still had...

The mega super duty trucks I'm sure are capable but I never want to transport a refrigerator in one with ladders needed to get into the bed...

Remember appliance repair and landscapers with ramp trucks...

While the sides are indeed higher I'm not sure that the truck beds are any taller than they ever were. The tailgate on my Ranger was the same height as that on my company Silverados. (2014, 2015, 2017) I often would back one up to the other for transferring things back and forth, including ATV or snowsled... the only difference is that the Chevys do have that nice step in the bumper for easier access.

That is when they made trucks which were actually intended to be used by those who bought them instead of getting looks on the parking lots.

When all my equipment worked and worked the first time - every time. I didn't have to worry about the advent of modern technological add ons - safety devices so complicated as to subvert operation - machines that could only be worked on by factory technicians - fuel that was cheaper per gallon than the hooch I drank.

The biggest problem I see with Corvair trucks is the small air cooled rear engine, that sure isn't practical in a year round pickup truck, winter heating is one of the big issues, same with the VW's.

You could get gas heaters in early 60s Corvairs.

I've never ridden in a Corvair in winter, so I don't know how it worked. From what I've read, when you ordered a Corvair, you had 3 heat options...
None
Gasoline
Engine air

And I think they only had the gasoline heaters for a couple years. From other things I've read, the engine air heaters worked well in the Corvairs as long as you kept all the shrouds and such in good condition.

Personally, as a kid, my parents had many Volkswagens. 4-5 buses, a beetle, and a Karmann Ghia. From the early 60's into the 80's. They all had engine air. And we all froze in the winter!
