Yeah I was kinda surprise to read that about her, wonder if nowadays she thinking that was a mistake, maybe now she's trying to shake that playboy image.... Maybe she's probably thinking Walton's Mountain wasn't so bad, when people get in their 60s like me we start going down memory lane, trying to forget the bad and remember the good what little good there was.

She was far from the only star who made her mark in that magazine. Raquel Welch is the first one who comes to mind...
of course I only happened to notice it while I was reading the articles. :D

I added era in hose thermostat in my 1930 Model A and I think it runs better with even temp... sure beats having to use winter radiator flaps.

My Model T Fords and horseless carriage are thermo syphon with no thermostat.

Popular Model A heater mounts on exhaust manifold and really does work.

About half my VW have the gas option... the only one I drive is the VW Thing

^^^^^^
Is that Thing air cooled?

/ Grandpa, tell me bout the good ole days............ #304
Yes, they are regular old VWs air cooled and fairly light weight.
I drove mine from New York to Idaho in the winter, soft top and vinyl windows,
lots of fresh air for that gasoline heater to work with. Type 181 "the thing".

Thats what I remember about VW's, bad heat but great in snow, mileage was pretty good to, but then there was that cricket sound.

Back in the early '80's I was working at a mine in Co. and had to drive over Monarch Pass, elev. right at 12,000', every day. I had an older friend who worked there too and we drove my wife's '75 Karmann Ghia to save on fuel. It was great on the snow packed roads and got better mileage than either of our Ford pick ups but It was cold. My friend, a WWII vet, named it "Hitlers Revenge". Got a lot af laughs

The last VW bus we had was a 74. My dad bought it used from a local dealer. It had duel 2bbl carbs and if you did things just right, you could jump the front tires over a beer can. ;) That was the one I learned to drive on. That, and a 70 Nova with a 3 on the tree.

Had several to try out... the most fun was a Westphalia Camper with pop-top... went camping at the Grandparents.

I liked the older bus and not so much the more powerful version with fuel injection if memory serves.

When in the snow... sometime the long linkage from gearshift to transmission didn't want to cooperate until things warmed up.

Also drove a 411 with the big front and an old ratty Karman Gia Convertible vintage 1962...

The only ones now are the Thing and a 62 Bug...

The Thing is very similar to the Euro Military version also called Safari... a 4 door phaeton as they did not have roll up windows.

I was always trading cars and only when I could make a little... acquire something old and drive it until something better came along... the key was buying right... especially liked cars that had sat around in a carport for a couple of years... brakes, battery and total detailing... sometimes a couple of used tires...

Convertibles were always a favorite... and money to be made and of course the thought now is "If Only" I had room to safely store for later... yellow Convertible 72 Olds 442, Buick Skylark Convertible, 69 Indy Pace Camaro, 68 GTO Convertible, assorted MG and Triumph and Mustang... all mid 60's to 1972... One car I bought cheap and really enjoyed was a midnight blue 390 68 Ford Galaxy 500 XL Convertible... it was just a sweet running car... with A/C and power windows, power steering, auto and AM/FM

Drooling to hear talk of vintage punch bugs, VW vans and old 70's cars.

At 17, I had an old mid-60's beetle in the garage - took the back seat out - had the platform built and was installing shag carpet, which was all the rage!

It never made it back out of the garage. Change in plans - found girls at about the same time - wish I had prioritized the bug...

Only thing left over from the good ol' days is a sweet little dune buggy begging to be put back on the road...project car for when I'm retired - guess I need to get started on it

with A/C and power windows, power steering, auto and AM/FM

Back then getting an FM radio was incredibly expensive. When I bought my first (and so far only) new car in 1970 I wanted to get an AM-FM radio...until they told me what it would cost. ISTR it being close to a $400 option! On a car I paid only a little over $2200 for!.

I passed and made do with an underdash 8 track player with FM in it for way less. Later on I picked up a factory AM-FM radio for it at a junkyard...think I paid $15 for it.

Nothing more fun and good for improving driving skills than taking an old VW Bug, shortened and turned Dune Buggy, no front brakes, out around the farm afer the first light snow.

No Seat belts, no helmets, and the only rule was you couldn't drive it with a blood alcohol level of less then 08!

BIGGEST grief was broken tranny mounts and guys would often chain the tranny into place.
