TV shows...the good, bad and the ugly...

I love watching the old shows like Adam-12, or Rockford files, Chips, etc...
Mostly just to see the background and street shots of how the world (L.A. mostly) looked , and the cars people were driving, and undeveloped land, beach fronts, etc...
A window into how attitudes and outlooks were different, how police forces weren’t as militarized, and everybody wasn’t a gung-ho tough guy.....well, except Walker, Texas Ranger.

One of my favorite shows was Northern Exposure. City doctor moves to small town Alaska. It showed the “interconnected-ness” mystical aspect of small towns.
I think Rolling Stone came out with a “100 (or 500) Best TV Shows” edition a few years back. I couldn’t find Northern Exposure. What!? Then there was a page with “Top 10 Worst shows” as picked by Hollywood’s biggest producers. It was on the list!
Either my tastes are 180 degrees from most, or Hollywood has no clue about small town America. I’d like to think it was the later.

Northern Exposure...OMG! Janine Turner really turned my crank!

I don't watch much tv at all. But when I do, I like to watch Ridiculousness, SouthPark, and reruns of The Big Bang Theory.

I used to watch Northern Exposure Reruns late into the night on C-Band. Great show, without all the noise and fast panning cameras, you get today. Back in the 80s, someone once told me they couldn't watch Hill Street Blues bacause of the fast camera work. Made them Dizzy.

A Netflick series that I got a kick out of was “Norsemen”. Filmed in Norway with Norwegian actors. They filmed two versions of each episode, one in Norwegian, one in English. It’s set around characters in 8th century Viking village, who do viking things, fight, plunder, rape, all the regular Viking stuff (nothing really graphic is shown), but they have 21st century sensibilities, feelings, etc.. I find the juxtaposition hilarious.

I would probably like that. There was a western that used a similar theme, called Quick Draw. It's not going to go down in history as a classic, but I thought it was funny.

Anyone remember an old TV show that documented possible man made disasters etc...?

One episode that I can remember was about a chemist working in a commercial chemical facility who inadvertently created a huge vat of nitro glycerin...does this ring a bell for anyone?

a couple of other old shows I remember were 'The whirlybirds' and 'The Everglades'...

Good British crime drama I caught on Netflix before it was removed - Luther. Had to turn the volume up so I could get the gist of what was being said though.

History Channel ran a series called 'Modern Marvels' that had a few episodes titled 'Engineering Disasters'.

Engineering Disasters seemed to have been shown outside of the History Channel as well.

Another is "Seconds From Disaster" And some Chemical Safety Board Investigative Videos.

I was once beseiged with airplane crash investigation series videos from Apple TV/You Tube.

The show I referred to was long before cable TV...I seem to recall someone like Peter Graves (brother of James Arness) or Jack Webb being the host...

I can't believe that some of you are dissing Adam-12... "The scenes you are about to see are true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent."
it was the original reality show! "Child actor"? Bah!!!
Next you'll be telling me there's no Santa Claus, and the tooth fairy really... well, never mind.
