TV shows...the good, bad and the ugly...

I love watching the old shows like Adam-12, or Rockford files, Chips, etc...
Mostly just to see the background and street shots of how the world (L.A. mostly) looked , and the cars people were driving, and undeveloped land, beach fronts, etc...
A window into how attitudes and outlooks were different, how police forces weren’t as militarized, and everybody wasn’t a gung-ho tough guy.....well, except Walker, Texas Ranger.

One of my favorite shows was Northern Exposure. City doctor moves to small town Alaska. It showed the “interconnected-ness” mystical aspect of small towns.
I think Rolling Stone came out with a “100 (or 500) Best TV Shows” edition a few years back. I couldn’t find Northern Exposure. What!? Then there was a page with “Top 10 Worst shows” as picked by Hollywood’s biggest producers. It was on the list!
Either my tastes are 180 degrees from most, or Hollywood has no clue about small town America. I’d like to think it was the later.

I was surprised to see on Adam-12 that the police officer's holster design is cut away to expose the trigger. It's the opposite of the modern design to protect the trigger while holstered.

I liked "M Squad" with Lee Marvin.

I have really enjoyed streaming Hill Street Blues from the 80s. Also I had forgotten about Northern Exposure, will hunt for it.

If you like that, try two Canadian shows, 'North of 60' and 'Corner Gas'.

I'm sitting in the chair at the Tooth Fairy this morning ... the one that takes your teeth AND your money. While passing the time, I'm staring at a screen with some people moving around on it. Super cute California blonde toy and her BF or husband or whatever. They're going through this wreck of a shack. Backyard full of trash, same for the kitchen and bathroom. Foundation is cracked and sinking, walls bulging with 2" wide open cracks. Simple frame stucco walls, probably not more than 30' x 40' or so. Sitting on a lot where you can almost reach out and touch the walls of the equally run down shacks on both sides.

Then they flash a number on the screen for what they paid for this mess ..... $232,000

This place was worth $10K at the very most and that would have been for the lot for a total tear down to clear for a new build. Literally nothing worth saving.

Ha ha. My wife loved those shows.
I guess it’s worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.
Usually the shows introduce the couples that wants to buy a house as something like: “He’s an aspiring artist who paints belly buttons, she trains guinea pigs. They have a purchase budget of $810,000.” What??!!

A Netflick series that I got a kick out of was “Norsemen”. Filmed in Norway with Norwegian actors. They filmed two versions of each episode, one in Norwegian, one in English. It’s set around characters in 8th century Viking village, who do viking things, fight, plunder, rape, all the regular Viking stuff (nothing really graphic is shown), but they have 21st century sensibilities, feelings, etc.. I find the juxtaposition hilarious.

I think you're spot on. They just quit making shows for us years ago - a look at a few commercials makes it pretty clear.
