The show I referred to was long before cable TV...I seem to recall someone like Peter Graves (brother of James Arness) or Jack Webb being the host...

I don't see anything in Graves's history, but Web narrated a show called GE True. They were dramatizations though: GE True - Wikipedia

I didn't mean it was one of them specifically...

Although I tend to remember this show being based on actual true events...one scripted show that fits the basic concept and was in the right time frame was 'Rescue 8'

Dragnet...

I was thinking about dragnet the other day.

1970, college, full time beer drinking. 4-5 of us guys would get together, pop a few cold ones and watch dragnet for only 1 reason.

We would count the number of times they nodded to each other, like in agreement. Sounds stupid until you gotta drink a beer every time they nod, it was funny. Those were the days.

First, I get Ruku tv, free programs, hip hop, survival, cooking. You get what you pay for but no complaints.

Who doesn't love Andy of Mayberry. I've lived in NC for 40 years and have been thru Mt. Airy many times, until they built the bypass. Been by Pilot Mtn 1000 times and, don't ever forget, Raleigh is where Barney goes to party!

Always a dark side. My E. Tn buddy and his wife watch it religiously. I have heard her say, wouldn't it be nice to sit on the front porch, do some knitting, listen to Andy pick on his gittar, look out for Ottis and Earnest T , maybe the Dillard's drop by to pick a little.

all the time they are wishing they were on the front porch, they are sitting on the couch, passively watching tv, not knitting, not playing the guitar etc etc. Kind of ironic and kinda human.

Mama used to roll her hair

back before the central air

we,d sit outside and watch the stars at nite.

She'd tell me to male a wish

i wish we both could fly

i don't think she's seen the sky

since we got the satellite dish

Ah, but you CAN fly.

Look into astral projection. You are glued to this reality only by your beliefs.

Watching Jeopardy every night has been a family tradition for decades. It’s the one show everybody agrees on. We’re sort of like the Rainman family (from the movie), but with Jeopardy instead of Wheel of Fortune. When the clock gets to 7:30, somebody shouts “Jeopardy! Jeopardy! Jeopardy!” so that other people know it’s time to turn on the TV and gather round.
Not only does the show reward knowledge (instead of luck), the show and Alex have been so consistent that it’s comforting. Things will never be the same after Christmas.

Now, Wheel of Fortune, that’s been on forever, since I was in high school and then college. Buddies would gather around to watch Vanna White. Now thirty plus years later, my kids are grown and it’s still on! I’m pretty sure that on my last day of this earthly life, I’ll be in a nursing home bed looking up at the TV, and there will be Pat Sajak making corny jokes and telling people to spin, and Vanna turning letters. God willing.

I can't believe that some of you are dissing Adam-12... "The scenes you are about to see are true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent."
it was the original reality show! "Child actor"? Bah!!!
Next you'll be telling me there's no Santa Claus, and the tooth fairy really... well, never mind.

You are talking about Dragnet, not Adam 12. :D

Dragnet had Henry Morgan and Jack Web. Sad I remember that triva.

Adam 12 was a spinoff from Dragnet.

And don't forget, just up the road from you, is Siler City! To say Siler City, you have to put in a bunch of i's, as in Siiiler City. :D

Strange fact, when Francis Bavier( Aunt Bee ) retired from acting, she bought a home in Siler City to live out her days. I think she lived in a petty big house on East Raleigh street.

Adam 12 was a spinoff from Dragnet.

Not exactly. It was created and produced by the same people, but was more a separate project as propaganda to show how good cops were supposed to be. Webb got tired of the portrayals in shows like The Naked City.

There were a few episodes where Malloy and Reed appeared in Dragnet or Friday and Gannon appeared in Adam-12. There were also some crossovers with 'Emergency!' and Rampart General Hospital since Adam-12 was in the Rampart Division.
