I mean, some people find getting stuck and unstuck fun. Maybe you get old enough and it's becomes just an interuption of your work.

Having said that 4wd is actually better than twice that of 2wd. Because with 2wd you are pushing or pulling two lame wheels. Kind of like being on your own two feet but carrying someone as opposed to two people walking..

You either got de 4 wheel workin before you NEED it or you waitin on de winch or anuther rig on dry ground wid a long cable and old tire.

Best 4x4 was de flat fender Dodges wid swivel frame behind cab so 4 tires on de ground & workin 90% of de time.

I've continuously owned one type or other of 4WD vehicle for over fifty years. Now it's the Taco Wagon. The good 'ol days in Alaska taught me a couple important things. Know your limitations and the limitations of your vehicle. Be IN 4WD before you encounter the "tough spot". A 4WD vehicle can/will get you to areas where few can come to help. It's a WHOLE LOT easier to get your boots out of the mud than your vehicle. Be well prepared.

I will never forget a friend an I in my 8 wheel drive Diesel Argo. Drove in and out of a swamp a few times having good fun. Then made enough of a rut that the machine got high centered. Lots of FUN making my way out of the swamp in the dark wearing reeboks!!

When we lived in AK, we were members of Top 'O the World Four Wheelers. There were always "newbies" on any run. I used my winch so often - surprised there isn't a chunk of 3/8" cable and tow hook coming out of my azz. There was ALWAYS some drugstore jokko who had something to prove. The unfortunate ones would charge ahead - end up in deep mud or water with a blown engine.

Always loved de geniuses who were sure ditch roller stickin out front of halftracks was useless. Dey also knew best to cross a ditch square on rather den at an angle. Always found dem real easy.

When I got my first 4X4 Dodge Dakota an outdoorsman type friend took it for a test drive around the property here. Never forget what he told me what a 4x4 is good for. You drive in 2wd until you can't go any farther, then put it in 4wd and back out of there. I think there is a lot of truth to that.

If you drive sensible like that, the chances of you getting stuck are slim. Around here a 2wd truck is worthless. I owned several 2 wd trucks when I lived up on "flat lands" up near Springfield Mo., and they worked fine and when the roads got bad, you just stayed home. But down here in the hills, you can't even operate one on many of our driveways and gravel roads they are so steep even in dry weather. No one owns a 2wd truck down here. Same for a 2wd tractor. They would all be at the bottom of the ravine. :) I operate my tractor in 2WD sometimes in our yard to be easier on the grass, but don' you dare take it down the driveway. Death wish.

My Duramax with so-so winter tires won't pull away on a very mild grade with an inch of snow in 2WD. The friends F150 with great tires runs circles around it in 2WD.

Yep, plenty of places to get stuck here with 4wd tractor too. Knock on wood, I have never been stuck in the 4wd, truck with both the traction control and the G80 Eaton locker. BUT I don't do stupid stuff with it either. I am sure I could stick it if I tried. And probably wouldn't have to try all that hard.

I think the Duramax comes with an anchor that I just never figured out how to raise. lol
