Al Bundy tried to make one last stand for the Western Male, and it was all probably lost after that.

Live FREE (and be the king of your Castle) or DIE! YOU can hold up in your dog house, basement, garage, or Man Cave, but that kind of living doesnt interest me in the least.
IT, I believe the trick is to be king in your basement, garage, shop, and man cave... and be close to par in your mutual living spaces with your mate. That is a winning prop. I will easily cede to my wife in those spaces such as the kitchen, living room, bedroom. In my mind... we both win.

I'm with you; I thought Seinfeld was on about a 3rd grade level...which is normally OK, but I just couldn't relate. The few good shows I have watched religiously very quickly fade away into PC mediocrity.

IMHO, the Simpsons is the best ever. They have their finger on the pulse of american culture and because it's a cartoon, they get away with it. It's written on at least 2-3 levels to appeal to everyone.

1 example. The dad, Homer, has a car accident with his kids school principal. As homer is tearing off he yells, this counts as a parent teacher visit! Every episode has something like that and it goes way over most people's heads.

What amazing is they continue to do it after maybe 3 generations of writers.

Chances are if you are a Jerry Springer fan or Judge Judy fan, you might not like the Simpsons.

Not a fan of Springer or Judge Judy, but the Simpsons rate at the bottom for me.

I'll forgive you for dumping on the single greatest TV show in the history of the world.

When I was working in Austria people would actually go home to watch Married with Children which was dubbed in German.

It was very popular in part because of its audacity... if this is the right word...

Over the decades there were some very popular shows... Bonanza was one and the Streets of San Francisco... I was always getting asked if the police cars really fly in the chase scenes and if the roads are really that steep...

American TV casts a wide net.

Other shows that had fans are Falcon Crest, Dallas and Dynasty... too many times I have had to play tour guide taking visitors to San Francisco, Napa Valley with Falcon Crest home and Filoli house which was used in Dynasty... https://filoli.org/about/diversity-and-inclusion/

I suppose the laugh-track in sitcoms are a throw back to the live studio audience days. I could certainly live without them covering up the dialogue. I dont need to be prompted.

I've been all over the western world. Do other nations/cultures have soap operas? I honestly do not know but, I firmly believe that people are people, regardless. If American women love this stuff I bet there is a good chance all women live this stuff.
Yep they do in the Philippines. Soap Operas and Game Shows constitute 70% of the daily programming, the other 30% is talent shows, beauty contests and American reruns. The soap operas have lots of crying, and you can see people wiping their eyes after some episodes.

I remember visiting relatives in Germany during the late 70's and early 80's. Dallas was very popular, as were old Jerry Lewis movies. Took a while to get used to the dubbed voices, just seemed strange to hear a different voice coming out of Jerry Lewis.

People were fascinated Larry Hagman could be so diabolical in Dallas and totally opposite in I Dream of Jeanne.

Barbara Eden is well liked and even put on her Jeanne custom one last time for a AIDS benefit in Vienna in 2013 and it still fit.

To some extent, some more than others - we all can be Dr. Jekyll and at times Mr. Hyde.
