What are you hoping for or asking for Christmas?

My wife told me she expects a Christmas tree even though it will only be the two of us due to COVID. I was hoping for a reprieve.

I want nothing and being a devout atheist I feel like a hypocrite if I receive anything, I will give anything to anyone who needs help at anytime if it is within my ability and they are deserving and don't feel the need to have one day for a feel good experience, tomorrow is my birthday and I feel embarrassed when I receive gifts, just a personal foible.

I'm just catching up on this so please forgive me for the multiple posts. Can you post a link or picture of what you bought? That's been on my list for years also but hasn't happened yet. I want it for some of the same reasons you list, plus hope to do some beaver trapping this winter.

I have a Striker Ice Climate jacket.



It is very warm. Almost too warm. I can remove the liner and just wear the jacket, which still floats. The liner itself is also a very nice spring/fall jacket, but does not float. It has lots of big pockets for easy access. The hood is removable. And it has a nice magnetic flap over the zipper that flaps itself shut and really keeps the wind out.

I bought a 2XL and it fits nicely over my full Carhart coveralls with sleeves. They are kinda expensive, so I'd test drive one before purchase, being sure to wear what I would normally wear under it to make sure it fits.

Years ago we had a skating party on the lake I near where I grew up. There was no snow and my friend and I got bored so just headed out along the shore line. We went about 1 1/2 miles in a straight line, but along the shore it was probably farther. It was the best time I ever had on skates, and I believe that it was also the last time.


I carry my chisel for that, and throw it down at every step. Even that doesn't always work though... years ago I was walking a frozen stream looking for a beaver house. I knew that it was there someplace, as we had found fresh wood when crossing it earlier that week. The stream wasn't very deep and after about a mile and a half it got too routine; throw the chisel out, take a step, throw the chisel out yet again... all of a sudden the chisel chunked through and before I could react a big sheet of ice slowly turned, dumping me into the stream. I felt like Maxwell Smart after tripping a secret trap door.
I got out and walked back to the truck soaking wet. On the way back I found the house I was looking for though... in the lake, about 100 yards from where my truck was parked. Oh, well.

That water is cold, ain't it!

I guess that it's not a Christmas wish, but one year when I was a kid the church chartered a bus and visited nursing homes, singing Christmas Carols. We would file in the front door carolling, walk through the hallways, and leave through the back. That must have been nearly 50 years ago yet I still remember one bedridden woman singing to herself as we walked past her bed.

I remember doing that in Cub Scouts. I think they took us to the mental ward (or our singing was just really bad), because I was traumatized by an old person screaming at us to get out! get out! and cussing profanities at us and chasing us down the hall. So many of us were shook up that the adults called it off for the night.

We have had zero covid for over a month now and it is good to go out again, even allowed to go without a mask but we elect to err on the side of caution.

All i want for christmas is for it to stop raining. It's raining again this morning and forecast another boomer for tomorrow.
