Bx1800 snowblower lift cylinder seized.

The cylinder on my snowblower is stuck. $359 for a new one. Is there a way to get one the same size cheaper or should I try a rebuild?

What is the size of the cylinder and length of the stroke? Is it push / pull or push / gravity return?

Says 2x5 it lifts and has down pressure.

Without actually measuring your cylinder my best guess would be that the cylinder is 2" and the stroke is 5".
I would do a quick search for a double acting 2" hydraulic cylinder with a 5" stroke. I did a quick search and found a 2"x4" cylinder for $85 (2 bore x 4 stroke hydraulic cylinder, tie rod double acting cylinder | Magister Hydraulics).
I think the 5" stroke is going to take a bit to find but it certainly should be available.

You sure its stuck? Did you try taking the top pin out and rotate the rod...

It will NOT be seized. It could be locked in position hydraulically because of problems external to the cylinder.

Why do you think it is seized?

What have you done to try and fix it.

What is the cylinder controlled by?

Has it worked on this tractor previously?

Thanks for your help. That helps a lot. I wasn't sure what the 2x5 meant, and didn't want to assume.

Check your hydraulic disconnects to make sure they are fully seated.

So we got it freed up but it has limited stroke after it was reinstalled. Not sure if it is air locked or needs a rebuild. First winter with this tractor so not sure if had this problem on the past. The previous owner was pretty meticulous with maintenance though.

Cycle it up and down to get the air out.....

We had about 34inches of snow today! Plenty of up and down cycles. Still not going all the way up. Will either try a rebuild or bite the bullet and get a new cylinder.

Did a quick search for "Hydraulic cylinder repair near Enfield, NH" and quite a few places were identified; Curtis Hydraulic, American Hydraulic Repair and North County Hydraulic Inc were the top 3.
If the cylinder isn't damaged most likely it can be rebuilt. If it were me, I would check a hydraulic shop and see if they can repair the cylinder.
